Giving up. I tried to install from a clean install. Same issue. I have decided to go back to 8. some games also loaded up with audio but no video.

You probably had a random problem the first time you tried to update (an internet crash for example), and it saved files in the update folder, but corrupted, so it needs manual intervention to work now.

There is no public beta version released by Recalbox.

This "beta" is just a wild build from a random user and is not endorsed by Recalbox in any way.
We will provide no support at all.

After dinking around, I stumbled across a copy of a boot.ini file online that had far more video mode options.

Found one that matched my 1366x768 resolution precisely, so I copied the lines into my XU4's boot.ini file.

1366x768 without monitor data using generic information

I then made sure all other video configurations were once again commented out.
Guess what? Didn't work. My TV is still just as dark as the first day I tried this out.

I'm going to re-image again. I know this specific flavor of RecalBox for the XU4 is a fork and y'all probably aren't the best folks to reach out to when I'm running your OS off of super-specific hardware, but jesus it's hard to find sensible documentation.

@playpixel I have nothing against the BETA version, I recommend it here in the forum for many people, and most of the people who tested it had their issues solved.
I use the latest stable version (18.07.13) because I have a "normal" Rpi3 (it's not Rpi3 +), and everything is working fine, it's not worth it for me to switch to the BETA version, since I have no problem.
If it is to recommend a version for you to install, I recommend that you use the BETA version (but never update it!), If you did not like BETA, use the latest stable version 18.07.13.

@spudje dude, why should we debug some 3rd party recalbox version that has tweaks that are not of our own ?

@smp weird, there is no firewall on Recalbox, maybe a bad network configuration on your PC. Netmask is correct ?

@aron-monroy-caton as others have said, I don't think you would power off your iphone or smartphone when updating it, so why would you do that with your recalbox ?

OK fair enough.

I'm primarily requesting the kodi upgrade as the airplay support in kodi 15 is quite unstable, meaning I'm now having to use 2 raspberry pis for wifi audio streaming from ios.

But kudos for Recalbox. I'm enjoying the support it has and just how well it works after previously trying retropi a few years ago.

It's really nice how stable the controller support is in Recalbox.

Is there somewhere you can reccomend for further reading of how the emulators are supported in Recalbox? Like how to add or fine-tune them? Specifically if using different emulators for Nintendo 64?

I figured out the issue. The problem was definitely on my end. Apparently my power supply was dying. I just picked up a new one and now the sound is back.

I was on beta 6 before and all was good.
Then the recalbox autoupdater told me of a new update which I installed. That was the above mentioned version that caused all the issues.

Since I found no other solution, I now drastically wiped the entire system and did a clean re-install of beta 4. I will stay clear of updates for now, hoping that this problem will not re-appear.
