did you install the official recalbox OS, downloaded from this site ? did you install a custom theme ?
Are your games/bioses installed on a external device ? If so, i suggest you make au fresh install.

@x925 Usually this happens when the system is not shutting down correctly, are you shutting down correctly, through the menu?

try making the change and then setting the permission of the file to 444 so it cant be written.

@substring Yeah, no problem, I just wanted to keep it at max anyway. I just thought that the games had no sound since one of my cables from my TV to my sound system had become unplugged. In-app volume settings are probably only necessary on hand-held/arcade devices anyway. Thanks for the help.

Hi, I had the same problem with kodi in librelec and I find this solution for the remote not is coming to be detected as joystick in the link https://github.com/denilsonsa/udev-joystick-blacklist

I only had to do this:

cd /storage/.config/udev.rules.d/
curl -o /etc/udev/rules.d/51-these-are-not-joysticks.rules \ https://raw.githubusercontent.com/denilsonsa/udev-joystick-blacklist/master/51-these-are-not-joysticks.rules
curl -o /etc/udev/rules.d/51-these-are-not-joysticks-rm.rules \ https://raw.githubusercontent.com/denilsonsa/udev-joystick-blacklist/master/51-these-are-not-joysticks-rm.rules

I know it not is valid for recalbox, but may be exist a similar option in Recalbox.
