That sounds super frustrating! It should definitely be an easy setup, but it seems like something's glitching with the input. Have you tried using a USB keyboard just to see if it lets you type the password? Also, sometimes a quick reboot or updating the system can fix weird UI bugs like this. If you haven't yet, make sure the Wi-Fi drivers are up to date on your Raspberry Pi as well, as outdated ones can cause issues with connectivity. Another trick is to check if the password is being entered correctly by toggling the visibility of the characters, just to ensure there are no accidental spaces or incorrect inputs. Once you get that Wi-Fi connected, copying ROMs onto the SD card should be a breeze! Hope you get it sorted soon, nothing should stand between you and loading up those ROMs! You should ensure that you are using the right input driver. You can check this under Settings > Input > Input Driver. If you're using a driver that doesn't support saving settings, switch to a different one, like xinput or sdl2.

The file structure is not outdated.

When you plug your Recalbox on your PC, you should be able to view 2 new drives: 1 names RECALBOX and one named SHARE.

Drive RECALBOX corresponds to /boot
Drive SHARE corresponds to /recalbox/share

If the file doesn't exist, create it, it won't break your installation.

HDMI to VGA adapters are always a lottery. 😞
There are some great picture quality adapters, but majority is really poor.
From my experience, I can only recommend legacy DeLock series (with red/black HDMI plug), but they are hard to find and rather expensive.
Personally, considering picture quality, I would go with RGB Dual - it is safe and reliable option.
As for jamma to USB control adapters, unfortunately I have no experience at all.

Recalbox is likely detecting your display in portrait mode by default. To fix this, edit the recalbox.conf file by adding or modifying the line:
global.videomode=custom
Then, edit config.txt and add:
hdmi_cvt=2560 1440 60
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
display_rotate=3
This forces the correct resolution and rotates the display. Restart Recalbox to apply the changes.

Looks like a huge oversight. I've gone back to Retropie for now. Too hard trying to compile stuff or even fiddle with it through SSH. The latency gets high and I get disconnected a lot. Don't want to run Cat-5 through the living room and kitchen all the time...
