@zing thankyou for your suggestion, I think the instructions I had used were derived from that page but I'm not sure.
Anyway, what I tried was to mount the drives individually instead of using 'SHARE' and I did not bother with screenshots, userscripts (I had unsuccessfully tried a script to unmount all drives on SHUTDOWN) and music as I have nothing in them and it works as expected.

you have to format your SSD disk in exfat format. Plug it to your Pi, load Recalbox and choose your SSD drive (give it a name) in the menu.
RCB will reboot and create all required folders on your SSD.

So I did that and recalbox found it with no issues but the issue remained.

I decided to check the drive one more time and I discovered that the file system somehow duplicated itself.

This is what my drive had on it for example:

Share—>system name—>roms

But it also had a roms folder as well and that looked like this:

Share—>roms—>system name—>roms

My files were all in the first set except for one system. After I moved the files all to share—>roms—>system name, the game list was finally updated correctly.

I’m not sure what happened to cause the issue but it may have been caused by me originally formatting the drive without a drive letter and then after I had installed it I removed it and hooked it up back to my computer but this time I assigned a drive letter to it. I then reinstalled it in the pi and selected the newly named drive.

Easy enough fix thankfully.

Sorry, but the forum does not support outdated versions, you need to be using the latest version if you want support (and, unfortunately, for versions prior to 7.0, it is necessary to do a clean installation).

I think you are wrong on that point. Retroarch allows you to save a configuration for each core. And in this configuration, you can define the saves folder. You can automatically customize this in Windows.

Theoretically (as I have never tested), you can customize this in Recalbox in the same way, you just need to navigate the Retroarch menu, and define the saves folder. The path in the Retroarch menu in Recalbox and Windows is the same.

Apparently you are disregarding the possibility of creating a customized configuration file for each emulator/core, and for that reason you are not succeeding: if you use only one configuration file, there is no way to put more than one path...

@Zing thanks for your reply. I fixed it just a while ago. I had network sharing on, but what fixed it was turning it off, then back on. What a dumb fix.🤠

@Pitch64 Cool, thanks -- that's what I thought. As much as I get excited for new versions of these things, the thought of having to redo it all again can be so daunting!!

@hitmaker Your SD card is probably corrupted.
You can try to recover it with Windows, but, it may be necessary to reinstall the system and, perhaps this will not even solve ...
The recommended is to use a small SD card for the system, and put the ROMS, BIOS and other things in external storage.
