Update to Recalbox 8 - No sound
-
Hi guys! I'm sorry about the topic but I really did a lot of search before posting here. I've updated to Recalbox 8 this week and I had a lot of problems (I'm running with a Raspberry Pi 3B).
First of all I have a really "big menu" screen (don't even fit in my TV screen), no sound and games not working. After searching in web I found the solution for the "big menu". Just changed the "system.es.videomode=CEA 4 HDMI" to "system.es.videomode=CEA 2 HDMI". That worked for me.
After that I've changed the "global.videomode" to default. Now all of my games work fine!
Now, about the sound, I don't know how to fix it. I don't have sound in menu or in games. In Sound Settings I just see "ANALOG OUTPUT" in OUTPUT DEVICE. I've tried to change to HDMI in recalbox.conf but it doesnt worked. Can you guys help me? -
@mcbenzi
So what kind of TV did you use ?
HD-ready: Resolution 1.366 x 786 or somthing like that
HD: Resolution 1280x720 or 1920x1080
4k: Resolution 3840x21060 or higherDid you turn on the TV before the Raspberry ?
Did you try another HDMI-Cabel ?CEA 4 HDMI is 1280x720 60 Hz 16/9 Progressive
CEA 2 HDMI is 720x480 60 Hz 4/3 ProgressiveMaybe you should try
CEA 16 HDMI = 1920x1080 60 Hz 16/9 Progressive
(If you have a HD or 4K TV)
or at last
CEA 3 HDMI = 720x480 60 Hz 16/9 Progressive
(If you have a HD-ready TV) -
@alvin I have a 4k resolution Tv (https://www.lg.com/pt/tv/lg-49UK7550PLA), but anything up to CEA 2 HDMI fits bad on screen.
It make the left bottom corner anchored and grows the image. So I only can see the left bottom menu (much bigger).
I always turn on my TV before the Raspberry and I've tried with another HDMI. -

@zing said in Update to Recalbox 8 - No sound:
@mcbenzi See if this helps:
First Link is for Raspberry Pi4 !
mcbenzi has a Raspberry Pi 3 B !Second Link is in French !
We are in the English Part of the Board and mcbenzi posts in English !So CEA 16 HDMI didn't work ?
Did yo try another HDMI-Cabel ?If nothing helps, I suggest you made a fresh install.
But before you turn on the Raspberry for the first time, first turn on the TV and than the Raspberry. -
Another thing:
Did you check the Settings of your TV ?a) Make a fresh install of Recalbox
Connect Raspberry and TV with HDMI-Cabel (you should try another one)
Turn on TV
Turn on Raspberry
or
b) Set Recalbox to CEA 16 HDMI, shut it down completly and start it newIf it shows any Problem now check:
Picture ->Ascpect Ratio Settings -> Just Scan
On / Off / Auto
I would suggest "On" or "Auto"Picture ->Ascpect Ratio Settings -> Aspect Ratio
16:9 / Original / Full Wide
I would suggest "16:9" or "Original"on your TV

First Link is for Raspberry Pi4 !
Sorry, but you are wrong. The first link is from the Raspberry foundation, for all raspberry models, and there are only some specs about the RPi4, please don't get confused.
Second Link is in French !
We are in the English Part of the Board and mcbenzi posts in English !And I speak Portuguese, does it matter?
I'm trying to help people of all languages, in my point of view, anyone of any language can use an online translator just like I used to understand the French post I quoted. If there is a possibility of a solution, I don't see why ignore it just because it's not in your language. In fact, many users can't search in another language, so I try to help by directing other similar posts. (Note: all the online translators I know of work better for English than Portuguese).
To help, follow the link automatically translated by google translator:
https://forum-recalbox-com.translate.goog/topic/23908/rb7-2-sortie-jack-pas-de-son?_x_tr_sl=fr&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=pt-BR&_x_tr_pto=wappIf you don't like google translation, try https://www.deepl.com/en/translator
@Alvin Thank you for the help you are giving to other users, but please, let's not argue for a possibility of help being in another language, with online translators this is not a big problem.
-
So if we all should use "Online-Translators" why are there Boards in different Languages here ?
We don't need them if we follow your suggestion.I'm not a native english speaker but I'm not as lazy as you and at last I try to help people in english and not simpley post some links in another language, saying "help yourself if you can't read it"
-
So if we all should use "Online-Translators" why are there Boards in different Languages here ?
For obvious reasons: it is much more comfortable to write in your own language. And all other users who understand your language can try to help, and as I said before:
In fact, many users can't search in another language, so I try to help by directing other similar posts.
I understand the difficulty for a user to search in another language, but it makes no sense to find a solution in another language and ignore it out of laziness to use an online translator.
We don't need them if we follow your suggestion
You are wrong once again. We're trying to help as many people as possible in as many languages as possible, and it's much easier to translate something into your language than it is from your language to another.
Your argument assumes that a person who speaks only Spanish cannot watch TV on a device with the description of the buttons on the panel written in English, even if the channels are local and all programming is in Spanish. What I'm saying is that it doesn't make sense not to watch TV just because the panel is described in English, it's easier to translate what ON/OFF means, turn on the TV and watch. They are different things, if you follow your logic, there would be no globalization.I'm not as lazy as you and at last I try to help people
If you offend any member of the team again, you will be properly penalized, please don't be rude.
I guarantee that I'm trying to help as many people as possible, in the way I can, in the time I have free, and I'm not gaining anything from it.
Your anger is unnecessary, you are considering that I am lazy because the answer to another user was not the way YOU would like, you are offending me without even knowing the opinion of the user I replied to.
Also, I see you're posting links in English on the German part of the forum, if I'm so wrong, you shouldn't be doing the same thing as me, or you're being hypocritical."help yourself if you can't read it"
I've never acted that way, you're fantasizing something different from reality to try to make it look like I'm a villain... All this because I tried to help a user? Also... the user doesn't look as offended as you do, why are you attacking me? Your intention is that I stop trying to help because you're not lazy and you're going to start answering ALL users, in ALL languages, and translating ALL possibilities for them?
If that is not your intention, your argument is invalid. I'm a global moderator, I try to help all users regardless of their language, but I don't have time to translate everything, in all languages. I only translate if there is really a need, which so far has not been flagged by the user who has a problem.
I've already helped thousands of users with links in other languages, and the users who were helped thanked you for it, unlike what you're making it seem.If your intention is to take my place as moderator, since you call yourself "not as lazy as I am", please start answering all users in their own languages, with all information in their native language: Spanish, Portuguese , Italian, French. If you can help everyone, don't worry, I'll stop trying to help.
But, if your intention is just to argue with me, you are in the wrong place, and with the wrong arguments, I recommend that you contact me privately, as it makes no sense for you to start a virtual war on a random topic about something that was not even the complaint of the user who asked for help, which is who I replied to.
Please calm down and stop trying to attack me, this is visibly meaningless.

@mcbenzi Sorry for the discussion started in your thread, this does not reflect the team's intent.
Did you manage to solve your problem?
Are you offended that I posted a link in another language? -
@zing I'm not offended at all!! I have to thanks everyone who is trying to help me.
Well, I've tried a fresh reinstall and it's all the same (big menu and no sound):Then I put again in CEA 1 (or 2) HDMI and the default "global.videomode".
But now I've tried to plug a headphone on my raspberry and I can hear the music and sounds by the headphone but nothing in my TV set. I'm really confused! -
@mcbenzi I believe it is related:

@alvin
If you offend any member of the team again, you will be properly penalized, please don't be rude.Ah, that's the way it is on this Board.
Now you're showing your true colors.
You can't stand any critic and then you threatened people to ban them because they "offend" and "insult" you.
This seems the only whay you have because you don't have any real other arguments.
You acting like a Dictator, "killing" all the people who oppose you.Go ahead, ban me, I have other things to do as to help people on a Board that is run by Kim Jon-un.
-
@alvin,
The first link is not for pi4, it's the general documentation for all Raspberrt Pi. Only some keys or sections are specific to the Pi4.
Then, we are on a multi-language forum. If there was an english post about the sound issue, @Zing would have posted it instead of a french post for sure. Before talking of Kim Jon-un, read again your own posts to see who's rude first.
