News: Recalbox 6.2, or 6.3, or... well, the next version!

@Zaphod some people just talk for notning...
-
It was just my opinion. I'd prefer something more gaming-oriented, but this choice it's up to dev team, not me.
Stay safe. -
There is absolutely nothing wrong in discussing/suggesting names for the next version! Maybe this thread is not the best as it might get too long to read. But the team is certantly bussy adding many new things now and we haven‘t had time to talk about it. Thanks everyone again for their patience!

Great job, I can't wait to download the new Recalbox version

I made a post in the "your discoveries" section regarding backlight for TFT screens like the OGST case and many others. I also provided some information for devs. I think it would be nice to have TFT backlight management built in. I have my system in the bedroom and the TFT screen is rather bright. I wrote a script to turn it off, on, or toggle, but i cant see any reason that backlight control couldn't be accessible via an ES menu item.
Should be pretty easy to see if anything exists in /sys/class/backlight to decide if the menu item is enabled. and I have already provided universal "off" and "on" commands

Hopefully this information is helpful.

Oh wow, that all sounds GREAT. Thank you very much, Recalbox-Team!
Can't wait to try the new version. One question: I struggled to find a way to play the famous SuperMarioWar (SMW) on Recalbox. On Retropie, it worked well.
I am a total noob, but is there a way to get this game running with the new version?Thank you again! You are all doing a great job!!!

Hello, Bonjour,
Many thanks for all those news. It's an amazing work/job that will come.
I'm noy a developper, but if you need people to QA the version and make some tests.
Feel free to reach out to me, it will be a great pleasure if I can help

Is there any chance that you will be including chdman (for compressing playstation, dreamcast, sega CD, etc. files in to CHDs)?
https://manpages.debian.org/stretch/mame-tools/chdman.1.en.html
This utility is very useful and should probably be included in the release.
For anyine interestid in using it here is an easy conversion loop
find . -name "*cue" -exec chdman createcd -i {} -o {}.chd \;
-
@Zaphod You'd better use chdman on your regular PC/OS to compress your CD once, instead of using it on Recalbox itself, in particular on SBC like Raspberry Pi.

Is N64 working better in the new version(new emulator)?
Thanks for the great work -
@Bkg2k I have an XU4 so its way more powerful.
-
@orn22300 I'm using a 200 GB microSD-Card with Dragonblaze. Having no Problems at all
-
@Zaphod Yes more powerfull than a Pi3, but far less powerfull than a PC
-
@Bkg2k true, but RB runs on x86 also.
-
@JameZtosteron are you getting video snaps and screen shots ok because I’m having a heck of a time. I’m about to start using RetroPie since it all seems to be working.
-
Has any work been done on the Dolphin controller options? One of the areas that is lacking is emulation of the classic controller (for example).

It would be nice if you made a proper installation for PC setups. If you're installing to an SSD/HDD it's not as smooth as installing to an SD card as you either would have to get the SSD/HDD to another PC and install it from that (thus requiring two PCs) or you'd have to boot a live system such as WinPE and download Balena Etcher and install it through that on the PC you'd like to use for Recalbox.
Very nice integration of ease to use and powerful system though! Looking forward to the new version.
