I installed Berryboot along with a ReCalBox v4.0 disc image on a new Pi Zero W. The system boots up and allows you to add new ROMs using ReCalBox Manager. However, when I shut down, the next time I boot ReCalBox, all the ROM and system setting changes I make are erased and the initial ReCalBox disc image load.

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I make sure to do a full shut down on ReCalBox box. Any ideas on how to save properly so it will boot with my ROMs and settings each time?

Recalbox is not compatible with berryboot. There are old forum threads about that.

Well you must have been through some pain to get recalbox booting berryboot ... So, what happens is that the SHARE partition is created in RAM. I can't promise to give you the solution, but i'm curious to know how much free space you have left on your SD ... I guess recalbox couldn't find some
