what do I need to do to get the ROMS to work?

You HAVE googled what MAME set you need to run on recalbox?
If you haven't got the 0.78 set, almost no games will run.
I have the 0.78 set with all duplicates removed (no one needs 31 Street Fighter 2's or 14 Pac-mans etc) leaving me circa 2200 unique games

        Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k "dead flesh" keyboard, Commodore 64, Amiga A500, Amiga A1200, CD32, PC Engine, PS1, PS2, PSP, Nintendo DS, Dreamcast, Wii, XBox 360, Xbox One-X, Pi2, Pi3, Pi4 owner, ARRM contributor ( http://jujuvincebros.fr/wiki/arrm/doku.php ).

@RustyMG yes, in fact, I did read the documentation. Although what I was experiencing involved nothing that I read, hence my question. Maybe hold back on the attitude, people don't ask questions if they know the answers....

Anyway, I thought I downloaded the 0.78 set, but clearly not. Do you have a link of the best place to get them from? (and yes I will be googling it again in the mean time)

          Cheers

@crimsonblaed In the picture, retroarch is using imame4all core, based on mame 0.37 Beta romset not 0.78.
Use the correct romset for the core u use or change te core to match your romset.

                Wow, someone is p***kly......
There was no attitude. It was simply the most important issue to establish, as 99% of the time, people have problems getting MAME running due to not being aware that they need a specific Romset to match the core they are using.
Your question was vague with very little information given.
