Solved Is it just me, or does the text search function on the Scraper not work?

@Dinierto you haven't read this, have you?
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/3842/how-to-screenscraperAnd you can with both scrapers select exactly what kind of media (screenshot, boxart, logo, etc.) you get.
For an easy way to use sselph's scraper take a look at this:
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/2594/batch-scrape-your-roms-on-your-pc-fastscraper/9For UXS and the how to change which media is downloaded look at this (use google translate if you need):
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/3595/soft-universal-xml-scraper-español/50Please, the next time you write that something isn't possible, do a little research before.
This is the main thread for UXS:
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/2274/soft-universal-xml-scraper-scrappez-vos-roms-depuis-windows-scrape-your-roms-from-windowsHey, how about next time you respond, you don't assume what I have and haven't done.
Guess what, those scrapers don't find every game. I've used them all and there are still games that don't get found. Yes you can manually input the information for those games. But when you have hundreds of them it gets very tedious. I'm getting tired of everyone mentioning the third party scraping tools (which are certainly helpful, amazingly so) and accusing me (and others) of not doing research when nobody wants to actually fix the problem.
There is a scraper built into ES, and it's broken. Until someone fixes it so that you can actually search, or makes a scraper that magically matches every game in existence, this will be an issue.

let me state what we think about the internal scraper : it sucks and it is sluggish. We won't put any effort in it, knowing there are a few other ways to bypass it.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can manually edit. It's not "that" hard if you know what a xml file is

Ahh, thank you for an honest answer. I can appreciate that.
No its not hard to edit the XML, but it can be tedious when you have hundreds of entries to enter. If that's the answer though, that's what I gotta do.

@Dinierto depending on systems, some romsets have a high % of scraping successful. But it also depends on databases which provide information to the scrapers ... Most of them would stick to the "no intro" sets.

To be fair I ended up with probably 95% of my ROMs properly scraped so I can't complain about the success rate of the utilities.

Keepin it classy eh?
That's okay, another mod already gave me a respectful answer. Don't trouble yourself any longer.

@Dinierto do I really need to explain you why you are a complete ...?
Well, lets start!
Paradadf: The internal scraper is bad and slow. Use external tools like Universal XML Scraper or sselph's scraper instead. There is plenty of info about that on the forum.
Dinierto: I already did. The problem is that they don't work for all games, and often use screenshots instead of box art, so I still have to go back and fix many games. Once in a while there are titles that none of the utilities match and the internal scraper won't find either. In this case I try the text search, but as I stated, that seems to be completely broken. It seems like no matter what you type into the dialog, it just searches for the original title anyway.
How I answered to this...
"they don't work for all games"
"titles that none of the utilities match"you haven't read this, have you?
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/3842/how-to-screenscraperIf you would have read the tutorial I pointed to, you would know exactly HOW TO make it work for every single game and therefore get all the matches using either UXS or sselph's scraper!!!
"use screenshots instead of box art"
And you can with both scrapers select exactly what kind of media (screenshot, boxart, logo, etc.) you get.

For UXS and the how to change which media is downloaded look at this (use google translate if you need):
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/3595/soft-universal-xml-scraper-español/50I not only gave you the links where you can learn HOW TO get the media you want, but also corrected your wrong statements, so people that reads it learn it right. How are you suppose to learn it... well, READING!
Finally I wrote:
Please, the next time you write that something isn't possible, do a little research before.
As I'm not sure you can follow, you stated:

"titles that none of the utilities match"
"use screenshots instead of box art"I explained to you how to make it work for all games, how to match every game and how to get the media you want. And I also told you that the internal scraper is bad and slow.
Finally, you are so insolent that responded saying:

You can't say you use the external scrapers and have read the tutorials, if you come up with statements like the ones you did before.
Guess what, those scrapers don't find every game. I've used them all and there are still games that don't get found.
Do you remember the first link I posted for you? And the other two?
you haven't read this, have you?
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/3842/how-to-screenscraperYou know what... I WROTE THEM MYSELF... so how you dare to be that insolent?

Wow, you are really full of yourself aren't you. I appreciate the tutorial, which I have read, but I guess my insolence must be overwhelming because it says that not all games are in the database. Perhaps your worshipfulness can elaborate even more for my simpleton mind.

@Dinierto sorry, I don't speak idiot.

Could have fooled me buddy. One of us has been insulting. It wasn't me.
Also who says "how you dare to be that insolent?" Are you a comic book villain?
-
@Dinierto for someone that has joined the forum only 27 days ago, you are pretty insolent. For a change you should occasionally read something different than just comic books. I have no time to waste on you.

You obviously have time to post sparky memes instead of directly responding to my original issue.
I reported a bug in the Scraper. An proper response would be:
- We're working on it
- The Scraper has bugs and has been abandoned for other methods
- Yeah we know but it's not a priority
Instead you listed utilities, which, while helpful, do not address the actual bug in Recalbox. I appreciate those tools and the suggestion, but they have their own issues as well. All I wanted was a response that addresses the search bug but instead you called me names, made assumptions, and posted pictures mocking me. For a Mod on this board you are very disrespectful and to call me "insolent" is hypocrisy.
-
@Dinierto I told you that the internal scraper was bad and slow, and suggested you to use the other. Furthermore, I told you that there were plenty of info about that on the forum. I answered you in a polite way, you were the one being disrespectful with your answer. And you didn't search for an answer as you were told.
I didn't aswer? Well... what about your questions from 13 days ago?
https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/4239/scraping-issues/6Quoting the conversation you had with the developer who answered you here too:
The scrapper embedded in es is not reliable at all.
Is there any attempt to improve this behavior?
No, as we have some workarounds that work much better. The internal scraper is not something we expect to spend time on
And the GitHub issue you opened two days ago...? Again, I was the one who answered you and gave you the link to a much older issue I opened about the internal scraper search function. If you would have followed the link, you would have read the exact same thing from the very same developer.
https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-os/issues/1082
The difference between you and me is that I don|t need your help. Being so annoyingly insistent about something that has been repetitively answered to you (and others before you) is something nobody here has to tolerate. If I would have the administrative rights, I would ban you from the forum. Good bye!

How in the world was I being disrespectful? I explained the reason for my question, that's all. Your response was to then accuse me of not reading the linked resources, which I certainly had, and, by the way, neither of which says "the text search in the ES Scraper is completely broken," which would have answered my one and ONLY question.

My earlier posts were about a seperate issue. I posted that the Scraper wouldn't return results for games with punctuation in them. So now, when I tried searching for text strings and realized that this also seems to be an issue, I asked on this forum if it was just me or another bug.

I'm glad you don't have those privileges because it seems ludicrous to ban someone after asking a very simple question.
Rather than arguing in circles and creating more insults, perhaps this thread could be closed.
