Solved Cannot connect to network
-
Hello there
I received my raspberrypi today, and I managed to successfully install recalbox !
The thing I now want to do is to install roms, and since I'm on windows, it looks like my only option
is to use a shared network. The problem is I cant connect the pi to the network. I use a (working) ethernet cable, but my internet box doesn't see the PI, nor my computer (ping recalbox doesn't work)
I also can't use the wifi because I don't have an usb keyboard, and I need it to enter the password.
What can I do ?
Thanks

You should say a little more : what pi version, what recalbox version ... does your box support DHCP ? are you sure it works on this cable + port ? We've heard about a few boxes that don't go well with the recalbox DHCP, you might have fallen in that hole

Hello again,
Indeed, more details about my setup can help
recalbox 4.0.0-beta5
Raspberry Pi 3My internet box support DHCP (it says that's it's enabled on my box interface)
I also vertified the port + cable, by plugging my laptop.So... I don't really know what to do at this point
-
i think that recalbox 4.1 with connman should resolve the issue
-
What do you mean, is it an incoming version ? Or can I download an alternative version already ?
-
a beta of the 4.1 will be available when 4.0 will be out soon. so you will be able to test.
you could test the alpha usb key version if you want to confirm it fixes the fix (issue 999) but dont expect something working to play. -
The Pi shold get DHCP IP address, if it is not happenning, you should check the following:
- From your router, see DHCP lease table and/or router logs to see if your Pi is asking for an IP address.
- Plugging your laptop to try port + cable is a good check, Have you plugged your Pi to the router directly to see if it works? may be is there any network element between your router and Pi?
If that is not working, you would have to get an USB keyboard in order to configure your WiFi, then check for ethernet issues once you get access to the Pi..
let us know,
Kind Regards

Hello again !
I finally managed to connect my recalbox to the wifi, without a usb keyboard
This is how I did it, in case anyone needs the instructions- I put ubuntu on a usb stick, and boot it (I know, I know, it's overkill XD )
- I mounted the SD card containing recallbox os.
- From there, I could navigate inside recallbox filesystem, and open recalbox/share/system/recalbox.conf
- I edited my wifi key and SSID with the correct informations
- Plugged back the SD card in the Raspberry PI, and voila ! My recallbox is now visible on my local network
I don't know what happened with the ethernet cable though, it's probably a problem with my box
Anyway, now I'm the happy owner of a fully featured retro gaming OS. It's amazing how much work the community has put into this thing !
Thank you !PS: now I have to mess up with themes, roms, music, and... Arcade (seems complicated)
-
Good news then! Feel free to ask :):):) Now that your Pi is visible over the network, you can try to edit your ethernet preferences in /etc/network/interfaces to set a static IP address instead DHCP to see if that would be the problem.
Kind Regards

I am actually having the same problem, but I am attempting to connect to my wireless hotspot. The version of my Pi is B+ V1.2. I do not know the version of my recalbox because I do not have access at the moment. My Pi works with ethernet, but I want to wirelessly install more ROMS.

@tristangp Hi,
Currently it's not possible to access a network drive over wifi in Recalbox. This feature is in development and will be added in a future version. Besides, as I don't know which version you have, I can't ever know if wifi is available or not.
My advices:
- Upgrade to the latest Recalbox version
- Stay tuned if you want to acces a network drive over wifi
- Stay in ethernet for now if you want to mount your roms on a network drive - or -
- Feel free to configure wifi if your roms are on local storage
-
@tristangp Hey, wanna beta test ? Take a look here

Hi all, just to let you know that since latest version network share over wifi is now possible.
Besides, I'm closing this old, solved topic. If you have any question, feel free to open a new one.
