Anyone using an Intel NUC with Recalbox?
-
Hello there,
I'm new to the Intel NUC series and simply want to ask you guys if anyone has a working NUC with Recalbox on it. As far as I've read online there're some models which are noisy and other don't work at all.
Thanks!

I'm using 2 models of Intel NUC with Recalbox and both working fine.
The first one is a NUC-Kit DC53427HYE and the other one is a NUC-Kit D54250WYK.
For the DC53427HYE, you can adjust the fan in BIOS settings, so that it will run relatively quiet.
For the D54250WYK, you could also adjust the fan in BIOS settings, but i bought a passive cooled case (Akasa Tesla H http://www.akasa.com.tw/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Fanless Chassis&type_sub=Fanless NUC&model=A-NUC05-A1B), so that i have absolutely silence. -
@joinski
Hi
Can you please tell us if you are running games with Dreamcast or GameCube? -
I see. I'm considering getting an Intel NUC7I3BNH for Wii/GameCube/Dreamcast Emulation. Do you think this would be enough if you compare it with your system? How well does the emulation works on it?
-
@milescw not enough for gamecube
-
@olivierdroid92
Gamecube and Dreamcast runs very well (but on the DC53427HYE i have a few slow downs in some Gamecube games). But i did test only a few games like Crazy Taxi and Mario Kart DoubleDash yet.
I do not know, how many Dreamcast and Gamecube games will run good on the NUC. You should just test for yourself.@MilesCW
Should run even better because of Intel HD Graphics 620@voljega
Why should it be not enough for Gamecube?@olivierdroid92 and @MilesCW
For Gamecube i would suggest to use*moderated*
, because it runs a bit better then Recalbox.
I do not know why, but maybe it is because of a different Dolphin Version?
Recalbox uses Dolphin Version 18.07.13-dirty and*moderated*
uses Dolphin 2018.05-rc2-3120. -
@joinski because several users reported there that gamecube on recalbox needed at least 3Ghz of processing power to be perfectly smooth.
-
my experience is different. In Gamecube emulation CPU- and GPU-Power are almost same important. Newer Generation CPUs (at least Core i3) do not need >3GHz to have good performance. Even some Pentium G (G3220 for example) with Intel HD Graphics are fast enough to run Gamecube Games in native resolution at full speed.

@joinski this is not recalbox, the implementation is not the same or not in the same version, so it's a pretty pointless comparison
in your previous message you say yourself you experienced slowdown and didn't tested much games so ...
-
i will do a comparision with Recalbox if wanted.
@olivierdroid92 and @MilesCW
do you have any specific Gamecube games you want me to test with Recalbox? -
Nothing comes to my mind - but thanks for the offer!
-
@joinski Try any Rogue Squadron or Viewtiful Joe
-
Viewtiful Joe runs perfect at 60fps.
But Rogue Squadron II unfortunately is unplayable. It runs only with 30-50fps and has graphical glitches. -
FYI: I just tried BOXNUC7CJYH1. Recalbox menu is unusable, registering 'key press' about 1 every 30 secs.
Thats on Intel UHD 600 graphics. -
@overunity
Thanks for the feedback.
I am very disapointed as I planed to buy the same.
Any chanche to record and share a video to show us the issue with the menu ?
Also if you 're in position to record a short video with a least 1 game will help us. -
maybe you can try the fork of recalbox?
unfortunately it is not allowed here, to mention the name of it -
@olivierdroid92 ich würde dir einfach nur empfehlen, ein bisschen mehr Geduld zu haben. Bald wird Buildroot aktualisiert und damit Kernel, Treiber und Co. auch. Dann sollte vieles funktionieren
