    • RE: Recalbox 4.1 stable release - RESPECT !

I also want to commend the team for developing and maintaining such a wonderful project. Full disclosure, while I did not say publicly on this forum, I too was worried about the future of Recalbox. It is exciting to hear that you guys, the developers, work great as a team. It's unfortunate when such a great project collapses because of infighting within the management team. This applies not only to software but to shops, organizations and the like.

Please correct me if I am out of place here. While emulators have been around for years, this is the first time that we can truly emulate the experience of retrogaming: the holding of a physical controller, the experience of playing on an actual TV screen, playing with your buddies in the same room...something that was relatively difficult to achieve using computer based emulators, especially for idiots like me. I believe the ultimate goal of Recalbox is to recreate and preserve that experience forever. Sometimes we as the end-users forget that while demanding other features that may or may not be necessary for that experience.

It's so common for people to take the time out of their day to write a dissertation-like complaint about the smallest of issues, but never to give commendation. So here's to the team! Thank you for all you do and keep up the good work for years to come!

    • RE: [NEWS] Recalbox 6.1 is getting delayed once again : we're explaining everything here

My only complaint is the number of gifs in that post.

Thanks for keeping us all up to date. No need for apologies, you guys are spending months of your own time to do this, for free.

Everyone else should be okay with a delayed release along with the 15 minutes it takes to do a clean install.

    • RE: Image file from 128g to 256g

You can try gparted, which is a bootable partition manager which should be able to extend your recalbox partition.

I would not recommend that option, though, as it can screw things up.

From my experience, I'd highly recommend mount all the roms/art on an external USB of some sort. Mainly because if your installation gets corrupted (which happens more than you think) you better maintain and keep backups, otherwise you're going to have to download all of your roms, scrapes and artwork all over again.

I don't want to throw the developers of recalbox under the bus, as they put incredible amount of their time into developing this wonderful system for free, but they have a history of falling back on their promise of never having to do a fresh build of recalbox between versions. Just keep that in mind when a major release comes out, that there's always a possibility that you'll have to flash another image when the next major release comes out.

If you're insistent that you need the art on your installation drive, you can always create a partition on from the unallocated and point recalbox to the new partition. That's a quick setting change in the recalbox menu.

      Hope this helps.

    • RE: Change HDMI port

      @colibris79 thanks for the tip!

I've since replaced it with a inline Micro HDMI cord and ditched the adapter, however I'm sure this will come in handy!

      Thanks again!

    • Change HDMI port

First off, I'd like to congratulate and thank the team for their work with the new version. Awesome work and it was well worth the wait!

I am running running Recalbox 7 on Raspberry Pi 4. Since I have plenty of HDMI cords, but no HDMI Micros, it was cheaper, greener and easier to get an adapter. It works fine, however, the adapter puts an uncomfortable amount of pressure onto the USB-C power cord, which I'm afraid is going to wear out the contacts on board with the USB-C port over time.

Question: The Raspberry Pi allows you to change the port used via the configuration file on Raspian. I'm aware Recalbox does not run on Raspian, but unless I'm missing something, is there a way to change the port to the other, more distant Micro HDMI port?

      Thanks again!

    • Unable to boot PC 64 bits

      Hello,

I am trying to reinstall recalbox on a USB stick. I have had success prior to using a Dell XPS 13 9370, utilizing a 64GB drive and flashing using Etcher.

I am now trying to boot doing the same process and equipment, except for an updated Dell: Dell XPS 13 7390 (Bios 1.5.1), Intel Core i7 (10th Gen). This computer is approximately 3 months old. No luck. BIOS sees the USB as a bootable device, but when it switches to the Dell Logo the system freezes.

After researching Dell forums and whatnot, I've come to the conclusion that there's something incompatible with Recalbox 6.1.1 and this computer. Dell seems to have made the leap of faith and did away with legacy boot. Just for good measure, I went ahead and tried to install Ubuntu 20.04 and was successful.

Based on my VERY limited understanding of booting, a common complaint among fellow Dell 7390 owners is the legacy boot problem. Suggestions exist on how to "hack" GRUB to force the system to boot seems to exist, but that is way out of my skill set.

I would love a solution for anyone who may have encountered this problem, however, if this is a new issue, i'd like to formally document it with the devs (assuming they're not aware already)

    • RE: News: Recalbox 6.2, or 6.3, or... well, the next version!

@Bkg2k thanks for the readers digest version! Definitely helpful to get a grasp on what needs to get done. I knew you guys had your work cut out for you, I just didn't realize it was this intense. I appreciate all the work you guys are doing for this wonderful project! Looking forward to...whatever you're calling it!

    • RE: News: Recalbox 6.2, or 6.3, or... well, the next version!

Please don't take this comment as a dig on the developers or a demand for anything:

Can someone explain to me why it takes so long to develop recalbox for RP4? I am genuinely curious and want to learn more about how these systems are developed. I figured since this is a Linux-based OS and the raspberry pi is so well-documented i'd figured it wouldn't be that different from previous versions of the Pi.

Again, this is just to further my understanding. I know this forum has a lot of ungrateful j**ks, please don't consider me and this post one of them. I've actually taken a big interest in Linux as a direct result of Recalbox and Raspberry Pis. I just would love to know why support for the 4 is taking a bit longer to develop than, say, the transition from 2 to 3.

And if this post may be out of line, feel free to tell me, ignore me or delete it. I don't need an entire thread locked up because of me.

    • RE: Bluetooth headphones?

      +1 on this.

I am not sure how to go about this, other than some third party add-on into the audio jack, but if there's not a way, this is something that should be incorporated natively into future releases.

Unless someone here has experience using your make and model of computer, you're going to need search and ask elsewhere on how to boot from a USB drive on a HP Compaq Elite 8200 Microtower.

    • RE: EmulationStation WITHOUT carousel white line.

You'd have to play around with the theme files. A while ago, I merged two themes to combine the best of both themes. It wasn't a heavy lift, mostly trial and error.

I put my recalbox out of service long term until there's support for Pi 4 to install my Pi 3 in my MAME cabinet, otherwise I'd get you the exact code to get rid of the line. I believe you need to set opacity to 0.

Despite being a separate system, the retropie wiki has excellent instructions on how to modify the theme files.
