PSX - Enhanced resolution in RPI3/4
-
Hello everybody!
I have a rpi3 model B, which I use a lot with recalbox.
Lately I'm playing mostly with PSX, and I always try to do it with the "Enhaced resolution(slow)" option, but many titles (e.g. tomb raider) slow down enough that I can't play them that way, even with speed hack enabled (with which I don't notice any change).
I was wondering if a rpi4 is powerful enough to run psx better with this option enabled, could someone with one confirm this please?
Thank you very much!

Hello, this option is not on rpi4 as this is a 64 bits system

@dantezote @Pitch64 Hi both. On my Pi4 setup I almost always had enhanced resolution on, or render at x2 resolution - cant remember the specific wording, and with approx 150 PS1 games, very few suffered any slowdown. Not sure if Pitch64 is saying that option is no longer avail in (the 64 bit) Pi4 8.1 release? Not sure why that would be the case to be honest.

@rustymg I quoted this in another thread: "Enhanced Resolution" removed from Pcsx-Rearmed on Recalbox 8.1?:
PCSX-ReArmed is optimized specifically for 32-bit ARM devices, and "enhanced resolution" option dependent on dynarec support, which is only available on 32-bit ARM, and Recalbox 8.1 is 64bit.
If you are using the "Enhanced resolution" option, you are not using Recalbox version 8.1.
Or, you are using Recalbox version 8.1, so you are using another option than rendering at x2 resolution, but the "Enhanced resolution" option is not available in 64bit (and Recalbox 8.1 is 64bit). -
Thank you all very much.

Thanks Rusty! Could you confirm which version of recalbox you use and if it is the same method to increase the resolution?

@dantezote it was 8.01 on a Pi4. I cant remember the exact option as Ive recently moved house and the Pi4 is still in a box somewhere.
Just read the link Zing mentioned - that is just crazy that 8.1 is worse for PSX emu than 8.01 (due to the emu - not Recalbox). I will need to tell my mates not to upgrade, as they mostly play PSX & Dreamcast games on their setup.
