[Theme] Clean Retro

@nwildner
gpu_mem_1024=384
is the default value in latest beta version, and will be in the next release.EmulationStation is never killed by any OOM manager. It just crash when available memory is too low or too fragmented.
Anyway... there are simple & clever things to do in order to avoid OOM without cutting off half the Recalbox services: DO NOT INSTALL 1080p THEME ON RASPBERRY PI! 720p maximum for background images.
I have a full system Recalbox and no memory issues when using a 720p theme.

Since the theme creators can't post things here due to copyright issues, and i don't really think they want abandon the 1080p resolution on their theme, guess i'll have to stick with other themes.

Puting the theme on mega.nz or any other file-sharing system avoid copyright issues.

Could be great to think about EDIT EACH FIRST THEME POST to indicate before anything... witch version of Recalbox is compatible with this theme.
Like : TESTED/Works on Recalbox 6.0 RC2 (DATE OF TEST)
And edit the post title, for exemple : THEME : Next Pixel (OK Recalbox 6.0, April 15), or THEME : Next Pixel (Recalbox 18.xx.xx OK, Recalbox 6.0 WIP)
This information must be on the name of the theme + topic, to see if there is update avaiable for theme's users.
And on the other hand, it's very important, to see if there is all systems supported, and not particular problem...What do you think about ?

Acabo de probar el theme en la versión 6.0 y no funciona, se queda la pantalla en negro, alguna solución?
I just tried the theme in version 6.0 and it does not work, is the screen black, any solution?
thx in advance

A very elegant, beautiful and classic theme! I love it! I think it's not fully compatible with Recalbox 6.0. Is there any updated version of this beauty?
Many thanks!

Sorry for the late reply and update about the theme.
I can confirm that the latest Recalbox version have bring back an old issue where the theme backgrounds are loaded without limits until it fills the ram and shows white. On previous versions where it was fixed it was only loading previous and next systems. Maybe 3-5 I don't know. But we were able to use high resolution 1080p backgrounds. We're in 2019 and
- putting the system in 720p
- turning off samba, api and manager
are not solutions. By the way I tried 55 systems with 65kb image files and this issue still persist.
Someone at Recalbox have to fix this issue. I understand that the RPI3B+ is limited in term of ram but this is an issue that has been fixed in the past. My old backup image works flawlessly with 1080p high resolution backgrounds.
People here are also asking for the theme, just check the latest replies. It's not only me that's asking for it.
Thanks for reading me and hope this will be fixed anytime soon!

I just tried 65 systems with the theme on Odroid XU4 and it works flawlessly.
RPI3B+ needs a fix.

ES Always loaded all themes. This is not a "New" issue, it's a matter of total system count in only 1gb of memory. We already tried to adjust the CPU/GPU balance, but we can't do much more.
-
@bkg2k you can load current system and its nearest 4 neighbours and on moving to next / previous, unload farest system and load new closest one
For instance id if I currently see system D and the list of systems is A B C D E F G, only B C D E F are in memory.
On moving from D to the right on E, B is unloaded and G is loaded, only keeping C D E F G in memory -
We're thinking about an intelligent cache system since month, but it's not that simple.
And for sure, we'll have people complaining about laggy and/or delayed loads. -
@bkg2k if you load enough neighbours (might be 7 or 9) there won't be visible delayed load.
Lagging maybe but with correct multithreading i guess it shouldn't
