Odroid C2 PSX stuttering / choppy and Sega CD iso issue
-
Hey there,
my guess is that the newest release has an issue with those systems.
Is there a link to an older version of recalbox for the Odroid C2?
-
Sounds great. Do I just flash it on to my SD Card and boot from it?
-
@regalia
Hi! As i told you i upgraded to the same version as you, so it's definitively not an issue with the newest release (maybe except for the fact that the 32x folder for the roms disappeared). As for a link for and older version, don't do that as otherwhise what i'm doing for you won't work, we need to have the exact same version...
As for what to do, no, you won't have to flash your SD card for these tests since we'll be using an usb stick, that way all your actual files and settings will be safe and untouched on the sd card, it's way better for simply testing! As i said, we'll be using a USB stick (be sure it's 4go or above):
01- If you have one with files currently in use, do a back-up on your pc, then format it in fat32 and name it "TEST".
02- Then simply get the file i'll give you once you have gave me your email (i WON'T give a link in a public forum, of course), then simply use winrar to uncompress the folder in the file on your USB stick.
03- Start your odroid c2 and once in the menu, put in the usb port of the c2 the usb stick. Go to the menu (by pushing start button), go to system setting, and then storage device list. Select your USB stick, and the Odroid c2 will reboot.
04- At the startup, configure again your controller (as it won't remember what was on the SD card), and give the sega cd a try, i put some files for you in there to try.Contact me when it's done and let me know how it worked for you!
But first gimme your email, so i can send you the link for the file that i'm uploading on MEGA... -
I already sent you my E-Mail like an hour ago
-
@regalia
Oups! Sorry, didn't see it, as I'm currently on my phone... I'm finishing the file in about 10mn then I'm uploading it on MEGA. If it's your first time using MEGA, in the meantime you can create your account to grab it once the upload is complete (I don't have a fiber connection so it may take some time, I'll send you the link via email the moment the upload is complete) -
@regalia
Upload has started, you'll receive the link in you email in about one hour... -
Thank you. Please give me some time, I will take a look at it as soon as possible.
I will give you feedback then
-
@regalia
Link send to your email, check it! In case you need help for using the USB stick, look at this post:
https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-os/wiki/Use-an-external-usb-storage-device-on-recalbox-(EN)
And let me know the results! -
Thanks for your link and guess what: Sega CD also does not work with your image. So I am totally at a loss now. Do you have any idea what could be the reason?
-
@regalia
Hi! Are you sure it booted on the USB stick? Did you see only 2 games in the Sega CD folder? Did you have access to the 32x game and emulator I put in there for test? And what about the other ones? Be sure it started via the usb stick... On the menu, try selecting the USB stick by its name, and if that don't work try "any external storage"... For with the file I gave you as the starting device, we have the exact same configuration, recalbox version, ISO and Rom...
Did you see any difference with your current version on the menu, just to be sure you started via the USB, as mine is horizontal not vertical, with the Xbox buttons showing on the bottom left of the screen...Edit: Last possible scenario, if it's not a booting selection problem and you ARE starting via the usb, maybe there is a problem with your SD card installation of recalbox, try downloading again the file and install all over again...
-
Yes, it was your stick. I saw some other Games. PSP did work, Sega CD had the same error. I am pretty sure it was booting from USB because the language was french
I made another test and tried the retroOS "batocera". Sega CD did work there. How frustrating...
Maybe there where different Odroid C2 Hardware revisions?
-
@regalia
As far as I know there wasn't, all c2 are the same, unlike pi3b and pi3b+...
I'm not a fan of batocera, but I will soon give it a try, just like lakka, to see if the psx works better and why... Maybe to see for the 32x too...
The last think possible is that I did upgrade from the first c2 release till now, but the actual version should be the same as your one... What I can do last is upload an image of my current SD card, if you wanna give it a try I can do that tomorrow... -
@paradadf
Hello Paradadf!
I just noticed thanks to regalia that the sega 32x emulator disappeared from the last version of recalbox on the C2, do you have any news concerning that problem?
As for the sega cd problem of regalia, i send him various things to test what works for me, but it doesn't work for him too, so it's neither the bios nor the rom... I uploaded for him the image of my current updated version that does work with mega cd...
We'll see how this works and let you know.
By the way, i gave a try to Lakka after creating the image from my current recalbox (also for backup), to check how some other emulators works with the C2, and i can say that the Sega 32x, the PS1 and the N64 run perfectly at 100%, with the same bios i used on recalbox. These ones are really problematic actually (the 32x and ps1 run really slow on recalbox, while the N64 run almost good, but not perfectly, the lakka runs way better).
Can we hope to get a new release soon with a fix for the C2 for these emulators?
Maybe use the same emulators used in Lakka? And see the 32x make his return?
Many thanks in advance for your answer! -
@shadowfrenchy can you please tell me which cores/plugins lakka uses? And what resolution? Otherwise you can‘t compare both systems.
I don‘t know anything about the C2 as I don‘t own one, but it should run sega32x just fine as it is a libretro core... probably @Substring can comment on that abd tell us if has been forgotten by mistake?
-
@paradadf
Don't know how to check that on Lakka, i can see a list of cores and that's all, here's what i found that is related:
-nintendo 64 (mupen64plus)
-nintendo 64 (parallel n64)
-playstation (pcsx rearmed)
-sega dreamcast (redream)
-sega dreamcast (reicast)
-sega ms/md/cd/32x (picodrive)If you need i can make a video of how it turns on Lakka and all infos that it shows... And also make one for recalbox, so you can compare...
As for the last release, i think that there definitively is a problem with 32x and mega cd, as i tried a new installation from scratch and mega cd doesn't turn as well as previously and 32x completely disappeared...
Let me know how i can be of help ^_^
PS: their ppsspp port isn't working nearly as good as yours (crashed each time i tried soulcalibur psp), and i didn't manage to find how to make some of my roms on snes or nec to be recognized...
-
@shadowfrenchy no idea, I don‘t use lakka. Probabably they only use libretro cores. But what resolutions? For instance, change the default n64 emulator on recalbox to glupen64 anf you‘ll see a performance boost, but also a lower image quality. About the sega32x and segacd I really can‘t tell as I don‘t have that board, but check your roms and check the bios to match the ones from our wiki, that‘s about all.
For psp, they use the libretro core and we the standalone ppsspp version, thus we have better results. -
@paradadf
for the resolution, i frankly don't know, i only know that on the N64, it's core provided, otherwhise you can choose 4:3 resolution (320x240) or 19:9 resolution (640x360).
I tried the default and the glupen along with a third one (a variant of glupen i think), but they are nowhere near as great as the one on lakka.
For the Sega 32x, all roms and bios match the ones on the wiki, but it doesn't run well, about 1/2, 1/3 of speed lowered...
As for the Sega Mega CD, as i said it works perfectly for me, using my older recalbox upgraded to the current one. But with the image of the lattest recalbox, it's just like regalia, it doesn't work... So it definitively is not a problem of bios or roms...
Finally, you forgot to mention the PS1, it's really slow and choppy on recalbox, while it works prefectly on lakka. I think it's pcsx rearmed for both, so i wonder why it never worked correctly on recalbox.
If you need, i can send you the image i'm using for my c2 with lakka, and the one i'm using on recalbox, maybe you can check both to see what's the problem, and permutate from one to another (don't know if that would work).
I can also put a video if you want on youtube so you can see how well these work on lakka, and another with the recalbox to see the differences...
I'm awaiting some news from regalia, i'll let you know if there is more infos...
The thing is since it's original release on the C2, we didn't saw much more improvement of recalbox, unlike any other plateform, so it's a bit frustrating... -
@shadowfrenchy i don‘t own a C2 so I can‘t do nothing with an image... BUT, I suppose it is related to buildroot and the old kernel recalbox still uses which will be upgraded in the next months. So I recommend you to have a little patience and try it after you read a blog podt about a buildroot b*mp.
-
I tested your old recalbox image with my Sega CD images - it works! So it is not an issue with my hardware or my images.
I have no idea why but it works. Since you confirmed the same issue with the new recalbox image I guess something broke on the latest release.
Thanks again to you for helping me finding the issue.
ありがとうございました!
PS: I hope the C2 gets more love in the future, too
-
@regalia
That's great news! So we now have a confirmation that the current image is broken for the mega cd system, along with the 32x being removed and the problem with the PS1 and N64.
I really hope Recalbox got fixed on the C2 for these, so it would be the ultimate machine seeing how it would be complete and running at 100%.
Other news is that i finished creating a video via my Hauppauge recorder of how Lakka works on the C2 with these emulators, with all the infos that you can find about the cores on it (finally found how to see it).
I'll upload later today on Youtube and post the link here, for those who want, along with the infos.
I'll later post another video with the current Recalbox for these emulators, so you can see the problem for yourself...
I'll let you know!
Bye!
