Raspberry Pi 3B+ (Plus) - Compatible?
-
@voljega Perhaps @gkralicek2 could confirm if this new version accept OC ?
-
@barbudreadmon Overclock works fine with new pi 3 B+ (i tested it briefly this afternoon with raspbian). I managed to achieve a 200 Mhz b*mp (from stock 1.4 Ghz to 1.6Ghz) without any problem on all of the 10 unit we got for test in the lab where i work. Idle temperature at 1.4Ghz is somewhere around 56-58 celsius and it climbs up to 68-70 once overclocked @1.6Ghz (which turns out to be closer to 78 degrees once a few stress tests are executed). Much better than the results i got with the original Pi 3 with copper heatsink when overclocked from 1.2 to 1.5 (which was slightly above 80 Celsius at times hence provoking random freezes).
I'll try to do some more tests if i got spare time during the next few days trying to get close to 1.7 Ghz if possible (but as far as 1.6 gets me close to 80 degrees i'm afraid pushing more will end up in random freezes) -
@gkralicek2 Thank you, it's interesting
-
@gkralicek2 It's very good news. My previous rpi3 was frozen with 1340 MHZ. If this b*mp can make reach at least 1500 MHZ for me it's a success :). I ordered it soem days ago yet so let's wait for Recalbox to support it.

@gkralicek2 Can you give me the values you used to get to that please
-
Hi,
I received my first Pi 3B+ at the moment.
I tested with Recalbox 18.02.09, and I have a small icon "yellow sign electric" in the upper right corner of my screen, that's all.
I tested with raspbian 2018-03-13, and there my raspberry works, so it is not defective.
I think a new file is needed to support the new processor model... -
@mickaelm i've been saying numerous times we are not yet compatible with it
-
@mickaelm Pi3B+ only came out a few days ago. Give it time.

@dark_néo
arm_freq=1600
gpu_freq=500
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=500
sdram_schmoo=0x02000020
over_voltage=4
sdram_over_voltage=2With these, temp is very close to 80 degrees when running emulators like reicast for a while. But so far it held up well without freezing on most of the cards i tried.

@substring is there a way to edit the files to get it to work while it gets updated? as retropie works but wifi dodgy, keep up the good work its appreciated
-
@dessy i'm not sure, i don't have a 3b+ myself. If it's just a dtb, give a go, it's a costless effort
-
@substring no probs might have a fiddle then
-
@dessy yeah but i don't think it's enough. I'm working on a big system update may b*mp all this myself and hope a 3b+ will arrive soon
-
@gkralicek2 did you use any heatsink or cooling soultion to get 1,6 ghz on the new pi3 b+?
@substring recalbox is the only OS i would like to use on the new pi3 b+. so hopefully an compatible update will come soon.
-
@monero i need a 3+ first !
-
@substring if you need any log files etc submitting let me know if it'll help
-
@monero Nope no heatsink. Heat control is very good on the new B+. On the standard Pi 3, even when putting heatsink one could barely let his finger on the CPU without burning himself after a few hours of use. On the current B+, the CPU is hot when touching it but not "burning hot" (even when CPU inner temperature is very high, dissipation is well handled and doesn't give the impression the whole unit is gonna melt :=)
-
@dessy sadly it won't help as it's a matter of how the kerbel detects the board. You'd need an UART to be helpful as of now

In Retro Pi 4.3.15 the Kernel modyfied and work well on New Pi 3 B+. Did this help us for recalbox ?
