Hi,
The new versions of retroarch allow us to switch from the classic mapping like a neoCD pad to a modern one as it is used in the latest kof for instance. Eventhough it seems that switching from an option to another doesn't change anything at all.
Is it a bug or is there something I don't get ?

It is weird because switching from classic to modern works on KOF 98 but not on Garou or Breakers Revenge for instance.
I met @barbudreadmon yesterday and he told me that it is a bug he is aware about. It should be fixed during the next update of Retroarch
Yes, i fixed it 10 days ago ( https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha/commit/e1fe2017ee816783f968e84f5c86f00cca5c2ba7 ), turns out i restricted the modern mapping to games from the kof/ffury/samsho family a few months ago, and strangely garou is not part of the ffury family in fba, with my commit the modern mapping should apply to any neogeo game tagged as a vs fighting game.
I don't know if this commit is already part of the recalbox releases though.
@barbudreadmon Does the fix include the Metal Slug series as well?
@randomtask The whole purpose of restricting the modern mapping to kof/ffury/samsho (then to vs fighting games) was to avoid having the modern preset changing the layout for games like metal slug. This modern preset was a suggestion from @manulegil to mimic the layout of snk fighting games on modern console from the last decade, having it on every game makes no sense and is kinda harmful since most people prefer using this mapping :

over this mapping :

for 2 and 3 buttons games on neogeo.
You can still use the remapping feature from retroarch on a per game basis if you are unhappy with the presets.
@barbudreadmon I see. Well, it's mostly a convenience thing for me, since I've been playing with the modern mapping on all SNK titles so far and prefer it that way. I'll just remap the buttons per game.
Either way, I'm glad there's a modern mapping in the first place, so thanks for that.

By the way, if you are interested, I can to try the current version with other FG that could be affected as well as Garou especially if they don't belong to a famous series such as Matrimelee or Rage Of The Dragon.
@manulegil fba has been updated to the commit right before the genesis work, as barbudreadmon suggested me. The canary is now at 100%, the release is available to everyone
