Force either 1080p or 720p everywhere

Is there a way to force a specific resolution both for the menu and the emulators?
I have a TV that takes ages when switching from 1080p <-> 720p and I'd like to find a way to lock the resolution.
I have changed the setting in /recalbox/share/system/recalbox.conf and /recalbox/share_init/system/recalbox.conf to set 1080 but it still toggles between 1080p in the menu and 1080i in the games.
(I found that the Atari 2600 emulator crashes in 1080p)

@thomasd3 We wouldn't recommend 1080p for playing. So you just need to edit /boot/config.txt to force CEA 4

What's the relationship between the different config files?
I found video settings in:
/boot/config.txt
/recalbox/share/system/recalbox.conf
/recalbox/share_init/system/recalbox.confI feel a bit lost

/boot/config.txt
is a kind of bios parameter file for the pi. You can eventually set the native display resolution there to overpass the EDID from your TV/screen- regarding the recalbox.conf file, one is the default (in share_init), the other is the every day one. It's a recalbox specific parameters file, and holds values for the screen resolution for emulators among many other things
If you set CEA 4 in the config.txt, it will be considered as your default resolution. I strongly recommend you set
global.videomode=default
in the recalbox.conf to avoid resolution changes -
