4.1 made SNES game laggy, KODI won't load, random black screens
-
More testing -
Aladdin on SNES is badly lagging, so is Kirby's Dream Land 3. Many other SNES play fine (Super R-type, Super Mario World).
-
Did you overclocked ? It is necessary on rpi1.
If does, I recommend a clean install. -
Yes, overclocked to max (extreme). RP1 is slower than my buddy's RP3, but works fine for SNES. All these games ran fine before update.
-
Weirdu. Same issue with all systems?
I'm using it on rpi0 (same arch) and no problems.
Maybe an issue during upgrade.
Please try a fresh install. -
I did a clean install last night and it fixed most of the issues. KODI is good, no more black screens, UI runs better. In initial testing with loading only 2-3 roms, the games worked fine. But this morning now that I have loaded up many roms and my save files, Aladdin and Kirby's Super Star now lag. Not quite as bad as before, but not playable. Could it be some other rom file or the save files that is making it run poorly?
-
I just did another clean install and only loaded 3 roms. Aladdin plays correctly now, but Kirby's Super Star is still unplayably laggy. Tried all 3 different core options, some are slightly better than others but none run correctly.
This game ran fine the day before the upgrade.

Try to disable options like rewind, smooth graphics, shaders. And if that works fine, search the option doing this behavior.
-
Smooth is off, rewind is off, shaders set to <none>. Still laggy and choppy music.
I don't understand what this means:
"And if that works fine, search the option doing this behavior."
-
I went back to 4.01 and it is a big improvement. The whole UI is faster, menus come up quicker, games load faster. The SNES games I was having trouble with play fine. I was surprised at how much better the games look as well, the rendering is much clearer and text more readable on the older version.

Hummm don't understand, really.
What is your rpi gen exactly please ?
The first one with 256mo ram ? Big SD card ? And Eva output yellow ? -
did you try each core for snes?
pocket snes and catsfc is better for rpi1
snes9x is excelent for rpi3
"snes9x NEXT" is useless and worst than the original snes9x -

"snes9x NEXT" is useless and worst than the original snes9xYes, I tried every core for each game I tested. There was definitely a difference between them, but none were playable. CatsFC played the fastest (not full speed) but had big visual glitches. Pocketsnes was the slowest/worst. Snes9x was the best compromise, but the music was still doing a fast stutter and was off key low pitch. Game play was very slow - possibly 60% normal. Graphics were jaggy and not clean in all cases compared to 4.01.

Ok and question about your setup ?
What kind of screen are you using ? HD TV, PC monitor, crt screen ?
How is it connected ? RCA ? HDMI ? -
HDMI to a 1080P samsung TV.
-
@deucetrinal Can you make a support archive through http://recalbox/help and post the resulting link ?
-
@substring That link gives me a 404 error, I assume I would have to have the recalbox running 4.1 for it to work? I went back to 4.01 because it works great still, and because it takes many hours to load roms after doing a clean install I won't be trying 4.1 again until I get a new raspberry pi. 4.1 works fine on a friend's RP3, so I'm going to try and upgrade to one of those for christmas.
