Pi 4 Support
-
Hello Recalbox Community,
Are people making progress with Pi4 Support? I can't seem to find any chatter about it here. I'm sure most people are coming here to understand status and readiness for pi4. I see the banner, but that doesn't tell me much. Where can people look to understand progress and what's left and how to get involved?
Thanks,
Matt -

For information, Recalbox IS NOT compatible with Raspberry Pi 4 yet.

@onezero it is nearly impossible to tell you how long it is needed to make it work, as we don’t know what to expect after one thing is fixed. So just be patient... that speeds things up.

Hi @paradadf - makes sense, I'm guessing there's probably a lot of unknowns that will pop up. I have development experience and I'd like to help if possible, can you guide me on how to get involved. Thanks!

This process is painfully slow, the pi4 came out 8 months ago, support should have been implemented long ago. I see zero traffic about people working on this in the forum. How is this possible? People must be discussing and working on this... how can I help? I really want this for selfish reasons, and I have a background in software development. Is anyone out there working on this and willing to spend 20 min ramping me up?

@onezero it seems you know NOTHING about Recalbox... So let me teach you some facts:
- Recalbox is an free, opensource project, with unpaid developers who make it for fun during free time
- As an opensource project, you're free to help us if you want a faster development
- PI4 hardware is very different from PI3, and most of code has to be reviewed
- The development workflow doesn't appear in the forum, which is a space for discussion. The project is managed on gitlab, and if you take a look, there is a huge activity.
I hope this answers to "How is this possible?"

I am, by coincidence, running Recalbox on the Raspberry Pi 4. It works like a charm. Trying to tweak N64 games a bit, I came back here and was surprised to see, that the Pi4 is not officially supported...
It seems that even though it is not supported, it does work. I have not encountered any issues so far.
I will provide some photos later this day.

@seramis I don't want to offense you, but...
- You're a magician
- Your message is a troll
- Your PI is not a PI4
- This is not Recalbox
I won't detail technical reasons
