    • Does anyone know who did the Odroid XU4 Build of Recalbox?

I need to ask a specific technical question and I'm thinking only the person who put it together would know. I need to know which USB Bluetooth dongles on the page below are supported in the XU4 build:

      Wiki Page

The page doesn't make that clear. I also need to know if those identified would support a PS4 controller. Full dets of the problem here:

      https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/26735/what-bluetooth-dongle-for-odroid-xu4-and-ps4?_=1650996679202

      Thanks

Is there really no answer to this one? Such a shame. I'm now stuck with Recalbox saying nothing and Odroid saying nothing (and the danger of one saying it's the other's responsibility)... Does anyone know who developed the XU4 build?

@alvin Thanks. Yeah - I thought so. It's a shame they don't have a column regarding what hardware these are compatible with. Thus, it doesn't really answer my question, but thanks for trying.

@alvin Thanks, Alvin. The page is a little unclear, though. Do they all work with the XU4, unless mentioned otherwise?

    • What Bluetooth dongle for Odroid XU4 and PS4?

I've tried to do some research, but a lot of the links lead to dead recalbox wiki links (I'm guessing it was redone/migrated leaving a lot of old links dead?)

I have Recalbox installed on my XU4. I have the old, original bluetooth dongle installed on it (Module 2 here) but recalbox doesn't register any bluetooth controllers. Is it because the dongle is Bluetooth 2.0?

There is another available (Module 5B here) which uses Bluetooth 2.1. However - it's quite expensive + wanted to check it works before buying it. Also, if there's a cheaper dongle I could buy, I would prefer that.

Could someone please advise on the above? Thanks

@loon - ah - thanks. I'm guessing there's a way to do this manually via config files. Does anyone know how to do that?

    • Duckstation: can't enter Retroarch menu

      Hi,

Some strange behaviour for duckstation. Controller 1 (Xbox 360 via wireless dongle on XU4 build) in ES doesn't seem to work at all - RA stuff and game controls (works in all other emulators). Controller 2 (PS3 Chinese copy) does, however, but can't enter Retroarch menu via the hotkey, nor access any other hotkey functions. However, game exit (hotkey + Circle - PS controller) does work.

Game play fine with controller 2. Tired swapping controller numbers in ES - made no difference.

      Any ideas?

    • How to disable bezels and use scanlines on a per-system basis

Of course, Retroarch is aces, but the fella who designed the configuration/settings system must have been having a bad year. It's soooo clunky, unreliable and unintuitive via the GUI.

Basically, I'm looking to disable the bezels on all systems and use scanlines on selected systems. I've tried various permutations of:
Settings>Configuration>Save Current Settings (often get Error) / Save New Config (saves as the core name for some reason)
      Main>Quick>Overrides>Save Core Overrides
      Shaders>Save>Save Core Preset

It's all very shonky. Does anyone have any tips?

    • RE: Default theme stretches on failed game launch

@Pitch64 - I take your point, but as a front end developer myself, you just can't dictate to your users that they can't use any romsets with accented characters in. There a lot of problems with this. Firstly, you may have a set of 2000 where only 3 have an accented filename. You can't ask a user to go through all 2000 and weed out the accented ones. Also, users may lose games without their knowing. I'm also aware that recalbox is french, therefore it would surprise me if they would try to force the anglicisation of all game names (what about french games with a french title?).

The solution is often in things such as database encoding setup etc and shouldn't be too hard a fix. Essentially, I'm easy, but good design would dictate an accommodation of accented game names.

Confirmed: amending the accent in all the references solves the problem.

    • RE: Default theme stretches on failed game launch

Well surely this is still a bug in Recalbox if it can't handle accents in game names/files? Any launcher should be able to handle these as there's potentially thousands!

Also, recalbox are including two files in its release that will cause this bug. Again, this would need some consideration by the developers?

I'm not wishing to sound ungrateful. As someone who's written a lot of software and completed a lot of projects for the retro gaming community, I know how much work they can be and how ungrateful others can be. However, if this was happening on one of my apps, it would be my issue to sort. I wouldn't ask users to ensure that none of their game files had accents in. It shouldn't be a mammoth coding task (just an encoding issues, most likely).

Here's the issue ticket if you want to update it:

      https://gitlab.com/recalbox/recalbox/-/issues/1542

I will also post a link their to this thread.

Ah well - I won't get into the age old debate of windows vs linux. It's not my hardware. I accept it could be shonky interfaces between linux and windows. I did find a solution which is to open disk manager and manually assign a drive letter to the Share partition.

    • RE: Default theme stretches on failed game launch

@Zing OK - so after a few days of thinking it was my modifying things or the way I installed things and changing things as a result, it turns out it is a bug in Recalbox's vanilla install. See the video below for an example:

      https://youtu.be/encKNBAfjNo

Basically, on a fresh install, C64>Rescuing Orc launches fine. However, if you change Games Settings>Shaders Set to Scanlines, it produces the stretched image error + the game does not load.

Weirdly, if you return the setting to none, the game will not load again. I have also confirmed the same behaviour on the MSX game, Night Knight (whilst not in the video, it runs fine prior to changing the Shader Sets to scanlines).

I haven't tested each and every system, but I'm sure this bug will be there for other systems.

I'll see if there's a bug report system somewhere for rb. 3 days of my life I won't get back on the theory that it couldn't be a fault with recalbox....

    • Shares drive on Windows unreliable and random

      Hi all,

The wonderful precious + random world of Linux strikes again...

I have a 128 GB SD card and Raspberry Pi installer. Installing 7.1.1-Reloaded onto a Pi 3b+.

So, I do the following for the first half of today, which had no problem in my being able to access a Shares drive when plug the sd card into a card reader on windows:

      1. Open Disk management. Delete all volumes on SD card
      2. Install recalbox via Pi Manager
      3. Insert SD card into pi - start and wait (takes a while)
      4. Switch off. Remove card. Put into PC card reader

I must have done this 6 times this morning (I'm troubleshooting another bug I've found, which I won't cover here - but requires a fresh install to isolate the problem)

However, about 2 hours ago, it just randomly stopped working! I do exactly the same steps, but the drive that used to be the "share" drive, now just shows as blank and if I try to open it, I get the error: "you need to format the disk" To repeat: exactly the same!!!!

Whilst I do love what Pi + linux can do, man, it's brittle and fickle..... (I'll await the rtfm boys baulking back...)

      Any ideas? How frustrating

    • RE: Default theme stretches on failed game launch

Yes. I'm wondering whether it's theme related. I did a reinstall via pi imager and then incrementally recreated what I did on the malfunctioning installation. So far, nothing has recreated the error.

The only things I can put it down to is using installing NextPixel theme on my malfunctioning installation. IN the video - I've reverted to the default theme. Now on the malfunctioning one, I had next pixel 720p installed (read some advice that if running on pi 3, use 720p for some reason). However, Have the 1080p on the working install, so wondering whether it's got something to do with the 720p version..

Will investigate further once I have some time.

      Thanks for the contribution, @RustyMG

    • Default theme stretches on failed game launch

      Hi all,

I've started having a problem with themes when a games fails to launch. When I come back to Emulation Station, the theme is stretched beyond to bounds of the screen, meaning I can only see the bottom left of the screen. Restarting ES doesn't help, I have to reboot recalbox. Could anyone advise on how to stop this? m(aside from not having non-launching games)

    • Scraping multi-disk games

Hi all. Having some problems when I scrape multi-disk games (e.g. for Amiga). I set them up in the roms folder as [GameName Folder]>rom (e.g. ChuckRock>Chuck Rock (Europe) (Disk 1).ipf & ChuckRock>Chuck Rock (Europe) (Disk 2).ipf ). When I scrape, firstly I get a folder on the games list (which I can live with, although it looks rubbish with the default theme due to dark grey text) and then repeated instances of the game metadata. In this eample, I get "Chuck Rock" with two entries (I get that it's one for each rom). The problem is that you can't tell which is disk 1 to launch without going into Edit Metadata to see the rom name. Is there any way to improve this?
