Yes it's the first time for many years that an update break the conf so much.
There's really big problems on controllers, globally, not on wireless controllers only.
Many of us have lost wire-Controller recognition/detection with controllers that we have used for years.
And yes i'm terribly agree with you about the restricted version to use. In my case, i broke my recalbox with the 9.2 version jsut before holidays and i'm glad to have kept my 9.1 X64 backup. I have lost many hours to reinstall it fully.
Unfornatly, i ve no backup for my Odroid XU4 and the migrate it to Batocera
