Make old Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Controllers work
-
Hi,
I want to use my old SEGA Controllers on my Recalbox.
Unfortunately you cannot buy old controllers with USB which are "SEGA-like" unlike the "Nintendo-like" Controllers.I found an adapter on the internet, which though is of bad quality as what buyers tell:
Is there a way of modifying the original ones to make them work with USB? Any experiences, guides etc. that anyone here knows of? (I dont want to build the Pi into the controller, I just want to hook it up like any other controller).
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Toni

Hey
The db9 driver is what you need. Check the wiki

Could u give me some more input, please?
I can use the adapter but have to install a specific driver?

The db9 driver is using the gpio. The wiring is explained on the wiki

Would it also work if I d just get a SRS232 to USB Adapter and activate DB9 in the recalbox.conf ?
Best regards

@Toni-Krüger that's just my personnal opinion, but i believe not. Such cable is made to "convert" usb to rs232, but you still need a driver on the OS side
