Best way to setup psx roms
-
Hello,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to setup my psx roms folder for recalbox.
According to the wiki it looks like the default emulator supports zip files, is this correct? Inside my zip files are bin/cue files. The way I have it currently setup takes the least amount of space while still preserving the sound and video quality.
If I can't use zip files, what is the best format to use that will retain the quality and take up the least amount of space? Eboot?
These are all NTSC games so it doesn't sound like I'll need anything like the sbi files but I'm not sure.
The other thing that might change things is that several of my games are multi disc (ffVII for example), does that charge anything?
Thanks

@ivwshane zips are supported, but they aren‘t recommended with such heavy sized files as cdroms. There are much better options though... PBPs (where you can merge many cds in one file) or CHDs, which should give you even more compression without lossing quality than PBPs. I‘ve never used chds, but they are definitely supported by pcsx_rearmed.

Interesting, I didn't know CHD was an option. Do you happen to know if I can go from zip to CHD without uncompressing the files first? The zip files contain bin/cue files.

@ivwshane it might be possible to batch convert them, but I haven't seen such script floating around the net... but again, I haven't looked deeper into it because I've not used chds yet.

Thanks for the link but it looks like the files need to be uncompressed first. The batch file will help as far as automating the process once everything is uncompressed. I think I’ll transfer everything to my 2tb nvme drive first to make this going even faster.
