If I wanted to swap Kodi for (say) OSMC or openelec etc. - is it as simple as just swapping the .kodi directories? If not can it be done, and what else would need to be added / changed?

This is an interesting question. If you don't mind me asking, why did you want to change it? Is there something not working?

No, there's nothing not working, it was more of an "is it possible" ALSO being able to "drop in" one of the existing build would save having to support both the emulator and the kodi and would mean they could be updated independantly
