RecalBox won't connect to the internet (PC)

I recently found RecalBox and decided to use an old PC to try it out. I put in a GTX 950, and ran the imaged recalbox onto a 64 gb flash drive. Everything works and I was able to boot into the flash drive, so I tried connecting it to the internet. The PC itself has no wifi card installed, so I put in a 802.11n usb to wifi adapter on the back. Wouldn't connect, the SSID and password were both correct, enabled wifi, and the status stayed as "NOT CONNECTED." I decided to just use ethernet, but that didn't work either, as it keeps saying the status and IP are "NOT CONNECTED." It could be incompatible drivers between the OS and the usb adapter, but I honestly have no clue. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
