@Grimlock42G1 the german and european versions of ffviii and ix have copy protection. had the same problem but even without creating pbp files. it might have something to do with it tho. there are patches available online to remove the copy protection. you might wanna give it a try.

tried that as well back then :). believe me i tried a lot of different things to get this working since i really wanted the old school crt experience i grew up with (alt. audio driver, different pal modes, even tried ntcs modes just out of desperation, etc, etc.) no such luck unfortunately with any configuration of cables, tvs or settings.
but then again it might just be the rca port on my pi (although i also tried it on my old pi1 with the same result... so idk)
now i just settled for a nice 1080p display with retro shader enabled and i'm still really happy with the experience.

i made sure. i knew that the pin layouts are often times different on most cables you get (for example video would be on the red respective rca connector instead of the conventional yellow one etc.). i tried three different cables in total and four different crt tvs. even opened up two of the cables and resoldered them to match the proper colours of the rca connectors.
same deal on all of them. there were slight differences between the tvs, but the image was never good on any of them and audio was always distorted.it might just be that the trs port on my specific pi is broken or something but since then i read various reports online that the trs ports on any pi are basically s**t and you just can't get a good signal out of them.

just as a heads up. tried the same with several different cables and different tvs. and even tho it "works", the image quality is absolutley terrible. the composite signal (over the rca port) is distorted, flickers and all kind of other stuff is going on on screen. not the mention the audio over the rca which is terrible aswell (a lot of background noise etc.). really isn't the way to go imo. tried this on raspi 3 as well as on an raspi 1. same deal.
there are other solutions, even some which use component video (which works way better) but they require an additional board attached to the pi afaik.
i'd really like to go proper crt tv style but it seems that the rca jack is of really terrible quality unfortunately.

by the way, is there an easy way to update retroarch individually in recalbox? that way i might circumvent the problem until recalbox ships out a new version with an updated retroarch included.

ah ok thanks you for clearing that up. in the meantime i just copied the save file manually to match the new disc. thankfúlly final fantasy 7 creates a savegame right bevore swapping that you can load with the new disc.
hopefully the core gets an update soon via recalbox

PSX: Disc Change doesn't work anymore with 4.1
hey everybody,
i got a problem changing discs for psx games. in 4.0 it was possible to change discs using the retroarch menu in game. in 4.0 you went to "quick menu" -> "disc control" -> "Disc Image Append", from which you chose the right image in your rom folder. that way whenever you get prompted to change discs in game, you could just load the image file.
now in 4.1 whenever i do the same, the emulator completly restarts the game with the new disc. so it won't emulate the disc change but instead just restart the whole core und restart the system. this makes it impossible to change discs.
is there some new method of how to do that?

Odd Resolution on old Plasma TV
I'm currently looking for old used TVs to use with my raspberry pi 3 recalbox and found an old panasonic plasma i could get for cheap.
the problem is, it states that it is "HDReady" but the screen has a resolution of 1024x720 (instead of the usual 1280x720). i wonder if this might cause issues with my recalbox and how good/bad the games might look on such a display with thad odd resolution. I thought i ask around if someone else had luck with such displays or has some knowledge on how it would perform.Another thing that's quite irritating was what the manual had to say about the HDMI port on the TV. It says that connecting a PC to the HDMI port wouldn't work but i couldn't find out why it might not? Does someone know what exactly that means and if that is a problem for the raspberry?
TV Model is the Panasonic TH-37 PV 7 F btw.
If someone has some useful info on that, let me know.

what do you mean by "software"? there are official drivers but the controller works as is by just plugging it in (at least on windows 7 and up to windows 10)

nevermind the "x/y" buttons. they seem to be correct. it is really just the "a/b" buttons in emulationstation i'd like to switch.
i remember that there was a config option in retropie for exactly that. but i can't seem to find anything similar in any config file.

yes you're right. that fixes everything in game.
the only nuance left is that the controller button info at the button of the screen in emulationstation isn't "correct" anymore. for example emulationstation says "press a to launch the game" and the correct button on the the wii u controller is "b".
thats why i'm looking for a solution to switch the "a/b" and "x/y" buttons in emulationstation only.

until now i used a standard xbox 360 controller but i'm now switching to my wii u pro controller. problem is that button names are completly different on the wii u pro controller.
for example the "A" button on the xbox controller is the "b" button on the wii u controller and vice versa. same goes for x/y.
if i configure the wii u controller after the button names all my controls in game are wrong and if i map it like a standard xbox controller the on screen button info in emulationstation doesn't fit the controller.
so is there a way of switching the A/B and X/Y buttons via some config file or something?
i hope somebody understands the problem :). if someone has an idea, let me know.

kann das bestätigen. habe gerade nen alten dongle in einer meiner schubladen gefunden. in den usb port gesteckt, neugestartet. bluetooth läuft. könnte gar nicht einfacher sein, solange der dongle kompatibel ist natürlich.

the wired "xbox 360 for windows" is a standard xbox 360 controller that has a usb plug. that way you can just plug in into your pc or raspberry and you're good to go.
i got one of those here myself. works great.

finally my wii u pro controller arrived in the mail today. first i tried it to pair without any dongle in recalbox 4.0. as expected nothing.
then i plugged in a random dongle i found in one of my drawers. plugged that baby in one of the usb ports, booted up recalbox, went to the menu to pair it. and IT WORKED. no hassle, no nothing. it works 100% as far as i can tell. i managed to configure every button and it works in menu as well as in-game.
so i don't think you need to fix anything but to enable the internal bluetooth.
for everyone who is interested in what bluetooth dongle i used: "logilink bt0013".

i guess if i ever happen to have a spare wii u pro controller or can get one for cheap, i'll send it your way :).
in the meantime can someone recommend a bluetooth dongle that works with the wii u pro controller? maybe some of you have a working setup.
the recalbox wiki lists so many bluetooth dongles that it is hard for me to decide. so if someone has had good experiences with one particular dongle, let me know.cheers tim
ps.: just another idea: couldn't you just implement retropie's solution and implement it in recalbox (sorry if that is a totally noobish idea, i got no clue of such things)
