Emulationstation too slow
-
Hi guys!
I have an old rpi 1 (B version) which I've been using as a media center for a couple of years, but recently I decided to install recalbox to play with some games from my youth. I have a problem though: games run fine (the SNES ones, at least, which are the ones I'm more interested with. Arcade ones have some problem but I guess that's my fault for not being able to find the right romset XD) but emulation station is reeeeally slow! System Settings takes something like 5 minutes to open and switching between systems is not fluid at all. Is this normal because my PI version is too old? Or is it because my roms are stored in an external USB HDD instead of the SD card? (I could swear that it started being this slow when I swichted to the external HDD).Thanks in advice (and sorry for my bad english: I know it sucks )
-
Hey !
Your english is more than enough to describe your problem
How many roms do you have ? Are they scraped ? Combining these 2 factors is a major slowdown issue
-
They're scraped, but they're not more than 30! There are a lot of videos on the HDD though (600gb, give or take), most of which are scraped in Kodi.
-
@Substring I also noticed that the system submenu takes a while to show now, something between 5 and 20s on Pi3
-
@ghilo89 might be the svg ... Give a try to the Darkade theme from @Nachtgarm it's much lighter and may help
@voljega at which moment did you count your seconds ?
-
@Substring not sure if I understand the question ? from when i click on the system submenu (in 'start' options) to when the menu actually appears, the other menus appears instantly
-
@voljega that's because we scan for available space + removable devices for external storage
-
well... I may have installed the wrong version of the darkade theme. The main menu seems to be ok, but when I choose a system the art is waaaay too big and covers every other thing on the screen! (also, it doesn't seem to have solved the first problem).
I'll keep searching for the right version, because I like the minimal style of this skin though

@ghilo89 https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-themes/tree/master/themes/DarKade
Might not be funny to download the whole theme one file by one file though ...
https://minhaskamal.github.io/DownGit/#/home?url=https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-themes/tree/master/themes/DarKade might be a good shortcut instead of downloading the WHOLE repo (which is very easy to do : https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-themes/archive/master.zip) -
I downloaded the whole repo, but the same problem occurs: more than half of the screen is covered by the game cover
-
Which recalbox version do you use and have you overclocked your Pi?
Where have you put my/the themes and how have you out them there? You're the first one to report a problem with my theme. Have you tried to disable the slide option for the themes?
-
Thanks for your replay. I overclocked it on high (950). Don't know at the moment the recalbox version. It should be the most recent one. It autoupdated a couple of days ago. I put the theme on the Hdd in recalbox/system/.emulationstation/themes
-
@ghilo89 Could post a screenshot of the erroneous behavior?
-
I had to take a pictures of the screen because I have no idea how to take a sceenshot outside of an emulator. Hope it's understandable enough.

2 Questions:
- How do you scrape? (Internal/from PC with Batch, USX)
- Are you SURE that you are on v4 of recalbox?
-
- Internal (the scraper couldn't find some MAME game btw, is it better to scrape from pc?)
- I'm not home right now, so I cannot check directly from recalbox, but I still have here on my pc the file recalboxOS-4 in my download folder so I'm pretty sure it's version 4.

What screen resolution ?
-
Resolution is 1080p
-
@ghilo89 can you SSH to your pi while ES is running, do a
tvservice -s
and show me the output ? -
