Newbie with ipac2

Hi all, i am a newbie to this retro+pi world but a long arcade fan trying to catch up with my nostalgia here. so i am building a bartop machine with rp3 inside, i have installed retropie but i am thinking to go with the redcalbox. I have ordered a set of 2 player set buttons with joysticks, will be connected to ipac2. I am wondering if anybody has tried this with redcal?? any guide i should follow? What i am thinking is what to do after I plug the button/joystick to ipac predefined connections, do i upgrade the ipac2 firmware? do i map the buttons using the ipac2 software or i map the buttons via redcalbox software? any ideas/help i will highly appreciate. thanks
