Rom Repository for Recalbox

Hello, maybe it is a stupid question, but i was wondering if to store roms for recalbox i can use BOTH sd card and external usb (placing some roms on usb and some other on sd card, in order to optimize all available space) or if i can use ONLY ONE of the two options but not both together.
