Mario Kart 64 - too fast with 4 Players

@joinski said in Mario Kart 64 - too fast with 4 Players:
That Mario Kart 64 with 4 Players on Recalbox runs way too fast has always been like this, as far as i can remember (i think even with version 3.3.0 beta17 I had already noticed this).
But it is only with 4 Players in Versus mode. In 4 player Battle Mode the speed is normal. And in my opinion it isn't that bad. It makes so much more fun at high speed with 4 Players in Versus Mode (especially the Koopa Troopa Beach map).
Just give it a few tries and you and your friends will enjoy itThanks for your help, but we tried it a few hours and were veeery annoyed... i know it is only in 4 Player versus mode. But thats the most played mode beside 2 Player mode (which runs at a fine and normal Speed )
i read in another forum, that there's a solution via cheat... but i don't know how to use it it seems to solve the Problem.http://www.emutalk.net/threads/33626-Help-Mario-Kart-Running-too-fast!!/page2

@riley91 try wirh Glupen64 core by pressing select on the game lost, edit metadata and chnging the first two entry from default to libretro and glupen. Mupen64plus standalone needs a b*mp to support a configuration ini (I think) which should resolve the speed issue (if Iām not wrong). You can try to use that cheats on the libretro port (glupen64 as mentioned before) too. No idea where the cheat file is located though.
See for instace:

https://github.com/mupen64plus/mupen64plus-core/pull/203Thank you so much, speed is at normal now! Finally...
BUT... all my controll settings from mupen64plus.cfg are lost.. of course because i use a different emulator now. How do i set it up now?! I only know for mupen64plus to edit the config file from mupen64plus. -
@riley91 you can do it from the retroarch menu HK+B. There is a wiki entry about that.

Yeah ok, got that, but how to configure Z button?! The retroarch menu doesn't have the z button when configuring the controls... maybe you can show me the wiki?!

@riley91 really ? The wiki is under your eyes on top of the page

Not so helpful sorry, instead you could've just posted the link..
https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-os/wiki/Configure-N64-controllers-(EN)
I can only find the howto for mupen64plus but NOT for retroarch... -
Ok found out that z button has to be assigned to L2 button (yeah self explaining..) but now Mario kart won't start with libretro... I'm quite fed up...
-
I got to say that's strange man. When I play Mario Kart 64 with 4 players the game runs fine, maybe a little laggy sometimes, I have never experienced speed issues. Try changing emulators or cores, but not changing controller configs. Use the default controller configuration (L2 as Z button). I would reinstall Recalbox in your SD card since you already altered your configs. Libretro core usually fixes any problem, for example, use Libretro if you wanna run Mario Party, it works wonderfully!

As for the cheats you have, I have never tried cheats on Recalbox, but you should know you can activate them only if you are using the Libretro core via the Retroarch menu (HK + B). I cannot give you more help than that because I wouldn't know how to activate them until I try it myself. But use the Libretro core, open the Retroarch menu, open Quick Menu and then Cheats, activate the cheat you want and apply your changes. I think cheats must be on .cht extension, I really don't know and I really don't know how to do that... sorry, but I hope I helped.

changing the emulator to "n64" and keeping the core as mupen64 did the thing... works like a charm. Easy and simple... already had much fun with 4 players at normal speed!
thx a lot!
