Solved SegaCD (MegaCD) - CHD files support
-
Hi everyone, I can't find any information on internet about it but I would really like to know how to activate the support for the CHD files in the SegaCD Libretro emulator.
I know the core lr-genesis-plus-gx is compatible with CHD game files as stated on this retropie topic here : https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/15751/sega-cd-roms-best-practices/3
I tried adding .chd and .CHD to the es_systems.cfg configuration file but no luck I get a black screen when launching a game and then it goes back to the game list.
CHD files saves up to 50% of the space and is much more convenient as it only have one file instead of a bin and cue sheet files.
Thanks for helping me!

Hello
CHD support will be added in a future release for the cores who will support itBy default picodrive is the emulator for SegaCD, the core doesn't support chd file.
https://docs.libretro.com/library/picodrive/you need to use genesis

Hi acris and thanks for your message. Is there an ETA of this release?
Also is there a manual way to do the core update myself manually?
Thanks a lot!

@deletedaccount
Good Morning,
You can change the emulator and the core directly in EmulationStation:
- Select ANY game within the Sega CD system
- Press
SELECT
and chooseEDIT METADATA
- There you will find on top of the list the option to choose the emulator and core of your choice.
To change
all
segacd games to genesis plus gx go to theadvanced emulator configuration
EDIT:
I forgot to say that you need another (or renamed) BIOS for Sega CD with Genesis Plus GX.
Example for playing US games:
If you have theus_scd2_9306.bin
for playing with PicoDrive.....
Make a copy of this file and rename it tobios_CD_U.bin
.
Copy this renamed file back to BIOS folder.
Try it with EU and Japan files also (rename to bios_CD_E.bin and bios_CD_J.bin).If it wont work with EU and Japan, search for these bios files:
Japan=bios_CD_J.bin
with md5278a9397d192149e84e820ac621a8edd
Europe=bios_CD_E.bin
with md5e66fa1dc5820d254611fdcdba0662372
awaiting your feedback

Can anybody help me, my chd roms are not showing up in my rom folder.
-
@deletedaccount how did you make the roms show up in emulation station, I added them to my roms folder and there not showing up, I did everything else listed above. It will play normal bin/cue files fine, but I have a complete chd rom set.
-
@abunille why aren't my chd files showing up in emulation station, there in my sega cd rom folder. Thank for any help.
-
@rommel1940 You need to edit the es_system.cfg file. Find the emulator segacd and where you see the line with supported file types just add .chd and .CHD
Like that the system will check for this type of file and find the chd iso. If you've added the correct bios with the correct md5 and correct name they will launch and play just perfectly.
Have fun
