Activate VICE C16 and PLUS/4 emulator
-
x64 is for emulating the Commodore 64 which has been sold some years before PLUS/4 (and C16). These models had a different CPU and video chip. Mostly the C16 was more or less the replacer of the VIC-20 while PLUS/4 was trying to replace the C64.
C16 and PLUS/4 have the same architecture that's why the same core is emulating them.
The C16 had a quite good success in some countries while unknown to others.

ok thank you for explanations.
and those 2 systems had some specifics games ? not existing on C64 ? -
Yes games for C64 cannot run on PLUS/4 or C16 and vice-versa.
Games for C16 runs on PLUS/4 while the opposite may be true if C16 has a memory expansion.

@c16-fan ok, I'll have to check the libretro core makefile. But I think we will have to build differents binaries, for each version of commodore.
If we do that, we'll add it as C64 cores. That could be managed by ES options.
I don't want to add a specific system to each commodore version. That will be a f**king pain to maintains themes. -
That would be great!
Actually in VICE menu it is possible to select the core so having the possibility to add other ones will be perfect!
Just to know (and while this is added to new release of Recalbox) is there a way for me to test already this core (xplus4 instead of x64)? Is it only a matter of replacing some files or is it more complex? This is only for a test so even if the frontent still shows C64 I don't care.
Thank you for your help!

@c16-fan once I'll do a build test, I'll tell you and tell you how to upgrade on this branch test

Sure
