RPi Compute Module 3 Support
-
It seems that Recalbox does not support the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3. Is that correct?
Is there a way for me to get Recalbox to boot on my CM3L board? I have tried adding bcm2710-rpi-cm3.dtb, but I think there must be more to it than that.
-
@flavor the dtb should be enough
-
@substring Do I need a specific version of the dtb? Maybe I had the wrong one?
-
@flavor we're still innkernel 4.4, so i'd say yes. I can try to add it in recalbox natively
-
Can you link me to the proper bcm2710-rpi-cm3.dtb you think I should try? Thanks!
-
@flavor i'm on my phone, it's kinda complicated. I'll do that once back home
-
@substring Okay, I'm not in a hurry. If it's easy for you to tell me how to find the proper file, that could work, too. Otherwise I'm fine waiting until you can send me a link. Thanks!!!
-
@flavor fet it from here https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/tree/2cf8fd5ba0b195e16627df6a5b45f47c0edc3a54/boot
are you using the .img or noobs ?
-
I'm using the .img that I burned to an SD. I'll pop that file in and see if it works. Thanks.

@substring I don't see a bcm2710-rpi-cm3.dtb there. There's just a cm (old compute module) blob.
Is this possibly it? https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/blob/7a0d52e1e6e4188648d85d886eb46842c9165c98/boot/bcm2710-rpi-cm3.dtb
-
@substring It booted up with the one I linked!
-
@flavor I'd be really curious about your setup : which board is the CM3 plugged in ? What project are you trying to do ? The CM3 would be just great for any homemade handheld, but i'm afraid the required board is too big and expensive
-
@substring It's for the Freeplay CM3 project. A couple of users at https://forum.freeplaytech.com/showthread.php?tid=4510 were asking about Recalbox (both for Pi Zero and Pi CM3).
I have it working on both now, but there are definitely other issues. I have some other questions about getting things set up easily that might be worth discussing on another thread or even via email if you'd like.
-
@flavor the forum is made for that, just go ahead and ask
-
well ok i just got the trick ... I hope you've carefully read the Recalbox license ...
-
@substring I think it's no trick. Our hardware does not come with any software. Users are free to choose anything they want. Our hardware just makes it easy for people to put the Pi inside of the GBA-style shell.
Most people use RetroPie. Just lately people are asking about getting Recalbox working, and I would like to support that.
I can start another thread for my next question.

@Substring
I am seriously thinking also about a CM3 implementation for a GBA clone. There is the Freeplay Kickstarter Project as the only valid solution, not cheap indead but with resonable hardware power. @Flavor seams to have lost interest, but with some small mods it should run, as processor is PI3 compatible. -
@dragu CM3 needs a dts -> same problem as with your hifiberry. But the "good news" is that we should be able to start working on the big system upgrade in august, so hopefully we should consider the release in september.

@Substring
Thanks, but if it is just this issue, should be peanuts. So anyway I ordered kit and housing and so on, will throw myself into cold water.
And I also want to run my third Rasperry game console to run under Recalbox. The CM3 looks great compared with the poor PI 0 performance. I ordered 1x CM3 separate but think that it could be one in the kit. If I have a spare giveway, it's yours -
@dragu well, the problem is that the CM3 needs a board to.plug it in (and these boards are expensive)
