Questions about Steam controller and XBOX One Elite controller
-
Hi everyone!!
Sorry if this has been asked before, I did try google and also forum search but couldn't find any information!
I am wondering if it would be possible to use my Steam Controller with Recalbox? If so, would it work wireless with the steam dongle or would it need to be USB?
If it is supported, would it have to be individually mapped for each emulator?I also have an XBOX One Elite controller (which I normally use on PC). Is this supported by Recalbox? I did try connecting it directly with USB but it didn't seem to recognize it as a controller. I haven't tried connecting the official XBOX one wireless usb adapter yet though.
If it does work, is there support for the extra paddles on the back that the elite has? (eg. can I map them to save state/reload state etc)?
Finally, I also seem to have an issue with some games (have come across the occasional PSX, NES and SNES game affected) where NO controller input works at all. The gave will just loop into demo mode as it hasnt detected any input. When this happens, the only way for me to get back to the menu is to SSH in and poweroff. Is this a problem with the games themselves? Has anyone ever found a fix for a similar issue with some games?
Raspberry Pi model: rpi3 Model B
Recalbox version (build) : 4.0.0-beta 6
Hardware (Micro SD, Power Supply, etc.): 64GB MicroSD (formatted to Fat32), official rpi 2.5a power supply
Controller(s): Current: XBOX 360 USB (with xboxdrv enabled in config)Thank you!

Hi, so steam controller need to add a standalone specific driver to be supported by the OS. But no one from the team have this kind of pad... So it is complicated to add/test it...
If you have linux skills, we can help to build recalbox et add this driver.Concerning the Xbox one elite pad, it will be supported in 4.1 but only on USB. The wireless adapter is only supported by windows with the official driver from Microsoft. No Linux driver for the moment...
About the extra buttons on this pad, we won't add extra mapping through ES mapping tool. But if the system "see" these buttons, you could customize your retroarch config to use them.

Thank you Rockaddicted!! That is very helpful info
Do you know if I could send the team my steam controller to help them?
My Linux skills are basic command line stuff, I do not have experience with custom drivers etc
If it would help the recalbox project, id be happy to post the devs my controller for testing for a while, for a few months? Ive got my Xbox one for now so I'd be happy to be without my steam one for a while if it means it helps everyone have support for the controller eventually
Please let me know if I can help in this way. I am in Australia but I'm happy to post it internationally. -
Well, either you learn to compile and hack recalbox, either we have to compile for you, give you an image, either you should send a pad

@Sigmatic Thank you, but I can't accept that you send to me your personal gamepad. If there is any problems with it (shipping, broken device etc...) I don't want to be responsible.
And working on this gamepad is clearly not my priority for the moment, sorry -
No problem at all!! I completely understand, no need to be sorry!!
I'll see if I can learn how to get a working driver and compile an image, I haven't compiled my own distro for years and never done anything with drivers but there's no time like the present! Haha!
Do I need anything special to get started? I'll do some reading tonight. It'll give me something to do in my spare time

here is the wiki about recalbox building : https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-os/wiki/Compilation-&-Modifications-(EN)
here is the buildroot doc : https://buildroot.org/downloads/manual/manual.html
and here is the issue about the steam gamepad : https://github.com/recalbox/recalbox-os/issues/466You can first try to build the full OS, and if you have question, come talk with us on the irc channel. You'll find support needed
