Solved PSX Games goes back to menu
-
hi. i setup old netbook for retro gaming.
everything is fine except PSX.
when i select PSX with default Emulator (Mednafen) it just goes black for a few secs then goes back to menu and won't run psx run.
unless i change the Emulator to PCSX it works and run any games but at 40-45 fps...and i read Mednafen is faster (not accurate) dew to my hardware limit.
so plz help me fix it or any setting that i can get full FPS on old and s**tty netbook for PSX.
thanks.

Definitely not, i don't know where you read that, but actually if pcsx run at 40-45 fps on your old laptop, beetle-psx (mednafen) will probably run at 30-35 fps. While pcsx will run full speed on a x86 with a cpu around ~2Ghz, and you can improve performance significantly by using a value of 1 (up to 5) for frameskip in core options; beetle-psx won't run full speed on anything below ~2.2Ghz, and there is no core option to improve significantly performance. That's my personal experience from running both of them on a dedicated x86 with a cpu throttling between 2 and 2.5 Ghz.
There is a plan to include a cross-arch dynarec to beetle-psx though (i think there is a 750$ bounty on this task in libretro patreon), so i guess the emulator will run really well when it's done.

@ash1390 What's the cpu on your laptop and what's the game you are trying to play ?

@barbudreadmon
it's atom n455. game like harvest moon... or RE1-3. -

Go to core options and set a value of 2 for frameskip, if it's not enough try higher values, but honestly i don't think there is a way to get psx running smoothly on a x86 @ 1.66Ghz. Due to the lack of x86 dynarec, that's a very bad choice of hardware for this system.
