awesome idea.  tried it, but ended up losing all gpio inputs.  i think i'm doing it. #6 says to add a line of code to recalbox.conf, "<span style="font-family: Consolas, 'Liberation Mono', Menlo, Courier, monospace; font-size: 13.6px; line-height: 21.76px; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.0392157);">neogeo.configfile=/recalbox/share/system/configs/retroarch/inputs/neogeo_custom.cfg"</span> what do i change that too if i want to do it to mame?  I tried "mame.configfile=/recalbox/..." (yes i made sure i referenced the correct new file name).  any ideas? i feel like this is close

When using gpio controls, within MAME, if general inputs are remapped within a rom, they are not saved once another rom is opened.  effectively, if gpio inputs need to be re-mapped in mame, they have to be done every time a rom is opened.  is there a way to save these?

same problem.  playing mame is pretty difficult when i have to spend 5 minutes setting up the buttons every time.
