    • Donkey Kong 64 Save request

Unfortunately, I had my saved overwritten by Project64 v2.4.0 a week ago. I was trying to get an AI upscaled texture pack working with the Project64 Glide64 plugin. In the end i got it working but somehow my save was overwritten which really ticked me off!! I got halfway through the game! I had 101 bananas and I just started World 5. I was almost up in tears 😭😭😭.

With that unfortunate event, I said to myself screw Project 64, i'll never use it ever again!! I’m done! So now I’m using Mupen64Plus Next with Retroarch. Does anyone have a Donkey Kong 64.srm save? The save needs to have at least up to world 4 (Gloomy Galleon) completed. In my previous save I just arrived at world 5 (Fungi Forest) and haven’t even got a single banana in that world yet. Please, I’m really desperate here. I just want to finally finish this game. I didn’t have an opportunity to when I was a kid. Playing this game again was an nostalgic moment. If I could find a save file online I’d use that, sadly all the saves are of 100% completion. Why don’t the people who think to upload those save files think of individuals who lost their saves and just want to start halfway through the game again?

The save file is really important to me that I’d even consider to pay for it.

@paradadf I don't know why you can save but I couldn't. Are you sure that you're using the non libretro version of the emulator? And that you are also using the USA version of the rom? This was a fresh install of Recalbox and the game didn't save for me. Testing the same game using Batocera the game saved fine.

@paradadf Ah! So apparently this seems to be a problem with Recalbox. I tried the same rom using Batocera and the same emulator and the game saved just fine.

@Zaphod There is no old save file. This is a totally new save I'm trying to create for the first time. Having the share opened at (/recalbox/share/saves/n64/) the emulator doesn't create a save file when clicking save in the pause screen of Donkey Kong 64. I refresh the folder yet the save file still doesn't exist no matter how much I spam the save button in Donkey Kong. This is totally weird considering how Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time generates a save file.

@paradadf Donkey Kong doesn't actually save though when clicking save on the pause screen. I tested another game "Ocarina of Time" and "Super Mario 64" and they saved just fine using the non librertro emulator.

    • Please help, can't save in Mupen64plus non libretro.

The game is Donkey Kong 64. In the libretro version the camera stutters which is a bug. I'm using the non-libretro version because the bug doesn't exist with that version, also the performance is so much better. How do I enable saving in the non-libretro version? There is no RetroArch menu, so things have to be tweaked in the config files. In the mupen64plus.cfg and inpuAutoCfg.ini located at RECALBOX\share\system\configs\mupen64, I see that there is a Mempak switch setting. I have set mempak switch = "hat(0 Down)" in both files, however pressing that button before saving doesn't work, the save doesn't exist after saving, restarting the game, and attempting to load that save.. Also, the setting in the files gets reverted back to a blank binding Mempak switch = "" in the files after exiting the emulator. How do I go about saving in this version of the emulator? Am I doing something wrong?

    • RE: Recalbox keeps changeing N64 resolution back to 480p on every restart.

@Zaphod I already know this. I know how to change the resolution for n64 per-game via the options. I'm trying to adjust the resolution globally across all n64 emulators via the recalbox.conf though. Unfortunately, the changes don't save. Once I set it to "CEA HDMI 3" aka 480p 16:9, or "CEA HDMI 4", recalbox just reverts the changes. Adjusting the resolution via the options doesn't actually change the screen resolution, it just adjusts the render resolution. I'm trying to keep a default screen resolution here.

    • Recalbox keeps changeing N64 resolution back to 480p on every restart.

In the recalbox.conf, the resolution set for N64 is "n64.videomode=DMT 4 HDMI". When I change it to "CEA HDMI 4" aka 720p, Recalbox reverts the changes once I restart the Pi. How the heck do I prevent it from reverting the changes? Multiple N64 games run fine for me at 720p on the Raspberry Pi B+ using the libretro Mupen64Plus, It's dumb that Recalbox is reverting these changes once I restart the system.
      Please help.

    • Can no longer access the SNES save folder.

      Dear RecalBox community,

I used to be able to access this folder via Windows Shares like 3 days ago, but now I can't. RecalBox somehow changed the permissions of the SNES folder during that time frame, and whenever I access the share, Windows is trying to open the SNES folder which gives me the error "Windows cannot access \RECALBOX\Share" Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network.
The IP Address of the Pi is the same as it always been. I didn't change anything dealing with the network, ssh, hostname, and share settings. I can ping the pi just fine. Windows is trying to access the "SNES" folder instead of starting off at \RECALBOX\Share, and that's why I'm getting an error when accessing the share via File Explorer.

WinSCP file explorer works and I'm able to access the RecalBox, however when trying to access the SNES save folder at /recalbox/share/saves/snes I get the error "Connection has been unexpectedly closed. Server sent command exit status 255." I can access the other save folders but for some odd reason I can no longer access SNES. If I use the terminal via WinSCP i can access the SNES folder just fine and even list its contents with ls command. It's weird how I can access via the terminal but not WinSCP file explorer.

I checked the permissions of the folder which seems fine, it is set to Read, Write, Execute for Owner, Group, and Others. I even made sure to verify this by using Ubuntu Linux with the ls -la command and even used the chmod 777 command on the SNES folder. Unfortunately I'm at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else to try.

@surface That guide didn't even work correctly for me on my VGA CRT monitor. When ever I launch a game I would get "signal out of range". I believe the best solution for me would be the "resolution override on a per rom and/or per folder basis" that @Bkg2k says will be implemented in 6.1.

@bkg2k That is so awesome!!!! Thank you so very much and the rest of the team for adding this very important feature!!! Now I just have to wait for it to be merged and then update my RecalBox.

@greenalex I'm using a VGA CRT monitor therefore 15khz isn't possible.. Even though "Switchres" is present in Retroarch on both RecalBox/RetroPie it would be cool if it actually worked on a Raspberry Pi through an HDMI to VGA adapter.

@tonificante RecalBox is more optimized than RetroPie, that's why I switched in the first place. Running at 240p with Black Frame Insertion I would get flickering on certain games. For example, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island on the SNES I would get flickering on the title screen which is Super FX heavy. With RecalBox I don't get that at all and other games I tested between the two OS's.

Quote: "The only way to define the screen size per game, as far as I know, is: start the game, press hotkey B to access the retroarch menu, press A to go to the Main menu, go to Settings, go to video, modify the "aspect ratio" to "custom", modify the 4 items below to what you want:
      Custom aspect ratio x pos.
      Custom aspect ratio and pos.
      Custom aspect ratio width
      Custom aspect ratio Height
After that, press A twice to back to the Main menu, go to Quick Menu, go to Configuration Override options, choose Save Game Overrides."
      **

Only problem with using Custom Aspect Ratio is shimmering caused by scaling. For example, the game Frogger runs at 256p. I have the screen resolution running at DMT 87 which is 240p. The game will be stretched on the vertical axis and certain game HUD elements will be cut off. I could turn off Integer scaling and than adjust the image with the Custom Aspect Ratio settings, but because Integer Scaling is off I will get shimmering because it isn't displaying those pixels perfectly aka Pixel Perfect/Integer Scaling mode. The best solution would be running the emulator at a higher resolution than the game resolution which is 800x600 because 256 * 2 is 512. Even at 480p the image will still be cropped.

      Quote: I found this:
      https://forums.libretro.com/t/per-game-resolution-config-or-auto-change/4836
      **

I looked at this and the settings suggested will not work for me, it's not a good solution as I would need to run all my MAME games as a whole in a higher resolution than 240p. I like 240p on my CRT because of scanlines. Can per-game video resolution not be implemented? If RetroPie can do it so can RecalBox. Certain games need to be run at different resolutions, don't only think of my reason for this, but others as well. Maybe it's not just because certain games are not scaled properly. For example, maybe some user has over 8 N64 games they play at 1080p. 3 out of those 8 games perform slowly at 1080p so maybe the user decides they just want those 3 games to run at 720p. See what I'm getting at here? Changing the resolution for specific games is very important. It's a very important setting that should be implemented, not just for my sake but for others as well.

    • RE: How to change resolution per-game?

@bkg2k No i'm talking about Screen Resolution, the actual resolution the emulator displays at. I already know how to do that by adding
      mame.videomode=DMT 87 HDMI
      fba_libretro.videomode=DMT 87 HDMI

      to the recalbox.conf.

What I'm really trying to do and the whole point of this thread is to change the resolution for specific games. Say if I wanted 3 games to use 640x480 and the rest to use 320x240, on RetroPie I could set the resolution through the launch options as shown below.

      alt text
I would have option #4. "Select default video mode for emulator ()" set to my custom resolution "DMT 87". I then would have 480p or any other resolution I want for specific games set by using the option #5. "Select video mode for emulator + rom ()

    • RE: Screen resolution PER GAME in Mame (Retroarch) ?

Sorry I had to resurrect this thread but it seems I had just created a thread about this same issue before realizing this one existed. I just wanted to reference this thread to my new one. Here is the new thread I created https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/17567/how-to-change-resolution-per-game.
It does seem that RecalBox is rather behind in-terms of useful settings compared to RetroPie.

    • How to change resolution per-game?

I used RetroPie for 6 months before switching to RecalBox. On RetroPie you can press any button right after launching a game and change specific options for that game such as the core emulator, resolution, etc. On Recalbox I can't find a way to change the resolution of specific games, I only know how to change the resolution of the emulator in the recalbox.conf. Is there no way to set a resolution for specific games like I could in RetroPie? This becomes an apparent problem especially with certain arcade games because they have weird aspect ratios/resolutions and aren't scaled properly when using a resolution below its native such as Pacman, Frogger, Space invaders.. I want all my arcade games to run at 240p and certain ones to run at 480p because they are stretched at 240p. How do I set a resolution for a specific game? I'm talking about screen resolution and not that viewport custom aspect ratio stuff.. I have referenced this issue to a 2-year old thread https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/6903/screen-resolution-per-game-in-mame-retroarch/17.
