Thank you for this! I was thinking about doing something similar as I find that a lot of the roms from the MAME4ALL set are hit or miss as far as compatibility goes. I'm also weeding through all of my console ROM sets separating cross-platform games and only keeping games that received a generally positive reception, games that have a popular cult following, and games that I personally thought were really good.

RE: Controller Config For Each Game
I agree with Luub ^^ It would be nice to have a simple cfg toggle, or even option menu toggle to set if user prefers the down+right or left+down buttons for two button systems... Hmm, I wonder how difficult it would be to simply alter the controller config script(s) to automatically set the controls the way the user wants for each system so that it doesn't have to be done manually every time a controller is added/reconfigured.

RE: [Availible in recalbox 4]Rom refresh feature
@dem1980, It would be a nice feature to include into ES for sure, but I'd bet retroboy could make a simple script to exit ES, and then start it back up to refresh without having to reboot the whole system.

RE: Edit or lock emulationStation Settings menu?
Hello Skrathe, I think the easiest way might be to simply set the config/boot files as read only.

RE: Retroarch 1.2
Excellent! Thanks for the reply. Also, while I have your attention; should I submit a bug report for MAME sound samples not working? Or is that something that has been ironed out already for 3.0?

RE: Recalbox still loading pocketsnes
You might want to consider a fresh install? I don't have any issues switching here... You are removing the ' ; ' (semicolon) at the beginning of the line, right? So it should read: snes_emulator=snes9x NOT: **;**snes_emulator=snes9x ??? Don't know what else it could be... did you by chance change write permission inadvertently? I just access the conf via samba \recalbox (or, \ip.address) and edit with notepad++ ...again, no issues here.

RE: I thought recalbox had an auto load roms from usb feature?
:$ ...my mistake lol I'm not sure if the other "retro" distro's support that feature, but you could always just hand him a pre-configured SD card? Sorry, as far as I know fstab needs to be edited in order for Recalbox to look at the usb drive. Good luck!

https://github.com/digitalLumberjack/recalbox-os/wiki/Auto-mount-of-usb-in-place-of-share-partition-(EN) btw, you might want to be careful how you phrase things. LEGALLY you are not supposed to be sharing anything... I would read the forum rules

RE: Issues with mame games
I honestly haven't run into that issue... but it sounds like maybe you have the MAME BIOS files in the wrong location? Just for clarification, not game ROMs, although they're both file dumps of read-only-memory (ROM, *typically), they're really two separate things... MAME is not your regular drag and drop emulator; everything has to be properly named (files inside zips, as well as zips themselves) with the right hashes, and in the right locations. All the info is out there, just have to poke around a bit. Cheers.

RE: Gba games not working
No, I mean, it's not there... you have to put it there, in /bios... in a similar method in which your ROMs where uploaded. The legal way is to dump the bios of your real, purchased Gameboy into a binary (bin) file... are you connecting any dots here?

RE: Gba games not working
Sounds like the emulator can't find "gba_bios.bin" in the /bios share.

That freakin' MAME samples folder!
Hello everyone, This is my first post here so I just wanted to start by saying thank you to @retroboy, Aloshi (ES), and the rest of the community that helps with this project! Out of all the different "retro" OS's (and I have tried five) this is by far the most stable, easiest to implement/configure, and most professional out of the bunch (e.g., no ugly terminal text at startup, and in-between games, configure controls via gui for all systems, etc.). Even things like custom scripts such as easily running Emulation Station at 720p, but having games at VGA resolution for slight speed increase (on some games) via a tweak in the cfg file is just perfect, especially for me, as I have a rev 1.0 Model B with 256MB of RAM! I could go on… but I’ll just say, congrats guys and thank you again! -I am very looking forward to 3.30! </adulation> ;-D Now, why I’m posting… I’m hoping to get some help and clarification on a couple issues I have been having –I’ll probably just end up making separate threads for everything to avoid confusion; the first one has to do with iMAME4ALL sound samples… I have been scouring the wiki (here and other pi “retro” distro’s) as to where I put the “samples” folder with the zipped sound samples!!! I have tried: …/mame/samples …/mame/mame/samples …/system /samples …/system/mame/samples …/bios/samples …/bios/mame/samples In Windows, you place the zips in “…\retroarch\system\mame\samples” and sound works… I cannot get those, same, zipped files in to work in Recalbox… HELP Please! –Silent Zaxxon is just disappointing tl;dr: Hi, thanks for Recalbox. Where do I put MAME “samples” folder?
