[RETROPIE THEME - PORT POSIBILITY] Cardboard Mini NES + Nes mini and Famicom mini themes

@ruckage Thank you! I also have been waiting for your themes to be compatible with recalbox, so reading your post is great news. Best of luck updating your themes for retropie and/or porting them to recalbox, I will refresh this thread every once in a while hoping for the best, I already have both nes mini and snes mini home screen bgm ready

Hello, sorry for my English since it is a Google translation. In the end, what happened to the nes mini theme for recalbox? Go ahead to the end?
-
@behemothcult Well it's been a very long time since this port has been announced, but I am doing nothing to help so I wouldn't dare complain about anything. I just hope Recalbox will get NES and SNES themes someday because they are awesome is all

Hello everyone, I just uploaded a port for SNES Mini theme (made by @ruckage) to Recalbox. If you're interested checkout at:
EDIT MODERATION -
It should be noted that @allan-garcia's port is an unauthorized effort and explicitly goes against the original author's wishes. The theme's license clearly states that any changes are only allowed for private use. To thoughtfully accommodate Recalbox users, @ruckage announced above that he is developing an official port himself, that will likely be maintained in parallel. Mr. Garcia was politely informed of this and willfully chooses to ignore both ruckage, as well as the terms of the license.
This may not seem like a big deal to some, but violations like this often discourage authors to continue work on a project and sometimes even drive them away from development in general. I hope this will not be the case here and I hope that Mr. Garcia will come to see the light on this issue. I think we all can agree that ruckage is a very talented and hard-working artist, as well as overall developer. It would be a shame to lose his presence in this community, as well as those like him.

@mediamogul @ruckage To prevent future whining about this matter I'm taking the repository offline. Best regards.

We support the wishes of ruckage.
@allan-garcia even if it is well meant we have to respect that.
I think we are all looking forward to the official port of this wonderful theme.
no one is helped if there are now disputes or similar.
@ruckage i hope your motivation has not dropped, keep up the good work. -
@mediamogul
Thanks for supporting me here, I appreciate it.@abunille
Thanks or the reply, everyone here has been very friendly and I'm grateful for your patience and understanding.
The port is still going ahead. My plan currently is to merge the nes/famicom/snes themes into one as it will be much easier to port and maintain 1 theme rather than 3. After that I can then keep both the retropie and recalbox versions updated simultaneously.Out of interest is it possible now to compile the recalbox version of ES on windows? I don't think it is (I did try myself a while back) but thought it was worth asking. If not I'll see about setting up a Linux machine to make working on the theme a little easier as it's not the best experience developing a theme solely on the pi itself.

I'm afraid windows is not our primary target ... So i think it won't work. You may run it in a linux VM rather

Hi, just a quick update for everyone. I've put a lot of work into the theme the past week in order to merge the snes and nes mini themes together. It turned out that it was a much bigger task than I originally anticipated but it seems to be working well now. I still need to add the Famicom theme and I have a few bugs to iron out but I'm much closer now to getting the Recalbox version made now that everything is all together (makes much more sense to port 1 theme rather than 3 separate themes).
You can read about the updates I've made on the retropie forum if you're interested: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/12583/snes-mini-theme/708

@ruckage Hello, first of all I apologize for my English. Since it is a google translation and you may read words with no meaning or meaning.
I'm very happy that you do these themes for the recalbox version, I think it's an excellent topic and it would be good for other systems that are not retropie. To me this theme comes to me of luxury, since I modified an original broken NES, to put an Odroid XU4 with the system recalbox.
I am anxious to have this issue in my nes. -
Hi! I just bought a nes case for my pi3, and I'll be here just waiting for that port too I just LOVE the nes theme @ruckage made... crossing fingers for recalbox port
-
Hello. I have a quick question regarding the $system variable in recalbox. Can anyone tell me if you can use the '$system' variable within the include tag.
For example something like:
<include>./layout/$system.xml</include>
The ability to do this is now being added to retropie and it would be useful when porting my theme if the same was possible also in recalbox.
-
In regards to my last post I think I may have just found the answer in the themes.md file and it looks like it's possible so that will make porting easier. (I should have looked more carefully).

Port is definitely coming, I've been reworking things in the retropie version to make porting to recalbox and then maintaining both in the future easier.

maybe @supernature2k can give you a helping hand

@ruckage seeing your theme on Recalbox would be amazing, I Like RetroPie but I simply adore Recalbox's configuration menus inside the ES menu wich RetroPie does not has, seeing SPECIALLY your SNES mini theme with its many variants playing in Recalbox wich has under theme settings the GUI menus to change each aspect of the theme would be awesome, think about it; you go to UI settings > Theme settings and there you can change the EU and US variants under the style menu and the background under the background menu man... that would rock
Other themes that might be helped by the Recalbox theme settings would be the NeoGeo mini theme and.... if you do it maybe a PSOne mini theme
Also lilbud's Switch theme would be benefited of those options
By the way: I suggest for Recalbox and your SNES theme if you ever port it for Recalbox to not implement your very own controller action icons into the themes but use Recalbox's ones with a font matching colors and either the default or the SNES inputs since those are already implemented in ES and also the accept / cancel inputs are switched
-
@sergioad
Absolutely, the ability to adjust the theme settings within Recalbox instead of via the config.xml will be implemented as It's great feature and one I wish was included in Retropie myself.
The custom control icons I use are to maintain the look of the theme so I'd really like to use them but I'll see - they could also be optional.Sadly a port of the NeoGeo mini theme wouldn't currently be possible as unless I'm mistaken Recalbox doesn't support any kind of Grid View (correct me if I'm wrong). the same will be true for the gridview carousel mode I'm adding to the Snes mini theme.
