gamelist.xml reverts

I'm trying to adjust the gamelist.xml for neogeo and any changes I make get reverted back after I save the file. I had to chmod 444 the gamelist.xml file so it wouldn’t be overwritten. Is this normal behavior? I’d like to be able to adjust the xml file now and then as I find issues and not have to lock the file.

Running 9.2.3 on rgbpi with recalbox.
