How to install Waveshare gamepi20 with Rpi zero w 2

Hi all,
thanks for this great software.
Does anyone know how to install the waveshare gamepi 20 within recalbox ?
I am using a raspberry pi zero 2 w and Recalbox 9.1-Pulstar - Raspberry Pi Zero 2.
The installation guide from https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/GamePi20#Method_2:_Install_driver

does not work. I get nothing on the display.
The controller looks like is working but some buttons arewrongly.

Tried to make it work with RetroPie and Recalbox as well. No luck with manually adding drivers. Got it working with preconfigured RetroPie 4.8 but... I needed to recompile LCD drivers as well:

Had the buttons problem also. When I pressed D-PAD the menu was skipping three positions.

I'd prefer to make it work with 9.1 Recalbox, but things are as they are. There's no proper support from Waveshare.
