What's the trick to get a 360 controller to work?

I have recalbox 6.1.1, and I have been trying to get my Xbox 360 controllers connected. I read they should work out of box since 4,so what I am I doing wrong?
I went into pair Bluetooth, turned on controller hold sync button, select from a random Mac address. Sometimes it says connected, but I can't control anything, sometimes it says can't connect and goes back the Mac address list. I try another, still nothing.
I have also tried starting the sync on the controller before starting recalbox Bluetooth config, not pressing sync, etc. I have also tried 3 different controllers.
Do xbox controllers work?

@jesuscamden as far as i know, xbox 360 controllers have no Bluetooth. The newer Xbox one controllers have Bluetooth.

Once you have MotionJoy, just select your controller from the drop-down list at the top, pick the controller you want to emulate (The XBox 360 Controller Emulator works very well, IMO), and click enable.
