Black box and no movement

Hey there guys. Just recently made my rpi and ran into some issues. First in the SNES I can launch some games but I don't have any movement. Currently I am using a PS3 controller with no issues so far in the Emulation Station menus. Sega Genesis doesn't have any problem with movement for example. Second on the N64 emulator it works for the most part until it crashes , but what I'm worried about is the screen is so small. Its a really small square in the middle of the screen with giant black borders around it. Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
