Discrete volume menu popping up

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I noticed while playing MAME 2003 games when I accidently hit the circle and triangle and down on the controller a menu would appear at the bottom of the screen displaying discrete volume, brightness, Qsound etc., pressing the same button combination removed it. Is there any way to disable this, as it's becoming annoying. I've tried through Recalbox by way of the Retroarch menu, and also the menu through MAME to disable it but I can't seem to find a way to do it. P.S. I'm new to this, apologies beforehand if this is a simple issue, I just can't seem to find any help when using Google. Thanks.
