Hello, this one should be the right one : card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
(It is on mine)
Did you connect your NUC through HDMI to an amp, a monitor, a TV as an audio output ?
-
@maldorhan thanks for your answer.
The NUC is conected to a Samsung Smart TV.
-
@jl2id start alsamixer to max/unmute every playback channel
-
@substring everything is max/unmuted but the audio is not working :_(
-
@jl2id Can you hear the music on the Emulation Station menu ? (be sure it's turned ON and 100% in the settings), I ask about that because it happened to me that I only had sound within ES / Dreamcast emulator and nothing anywhere else using a NUC7i3.
Using this : card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
-
@maldorhan No, I can not listen the emulestation song, neither the sound in games (I have just tested with Crazy Taxi for DC).
These are my audio settings in recalbox.conf
------------ C - Audio ------------
Set the audio device (auto, hdmi, jack)
audio.device=[0:3] HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH + HDMI 0
Set system volume (0..100)
audio.volume=100
Enable or disable system sounds in ES (0,1)
audio.bgmusic=1

@jl2id Oh wow then I dont know, I can tell you that many people encountered issues with audio through HDMI on NUC's, here's 3 options you could try :
-
Try to plug the NUC on another TV / Monitor with sound / Ampli to check if you can hear something
-
Buy a USB-C to HDMI adapter, it's cheap and known to fix some audio issues
-
Run Ubuntu live CD or Install it and check if you get any sound on your TV, if so check what output it's using
That's what I would try anyway

Hi, I have a intel NUC5i3RY with the same problem... And in my case, recalbox cannot detect the HDMI...
aplay -l
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC283 Analog [ALC283 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0I run this commands:
mount -o remount,rw /
mkdir /var/lib/alsamixer
alsamixer
mkdir /var/lib/alsa
alsactl store
alsactl --file ~/.config/asound.state store
alsamixerAnd reboot recalbox. When recalbox boot, I exec again:
aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC283 Analog [ALC283 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0And in settings/audio, I select this:
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
And I run emulator and sound work fine... But, in the 3rd reboot, sometimes, the sound is off because the folder /var/lib/alsa and /var/lib/alsamixer dissappears...
And I run this commands again and again... Can I resolved this?? There are many people whit this issue...
Thanks and good job with recalbox!

@maldorhan I have news on this topic... I have connected the NUC to other TV with Ubuntu and I have sound! When I connect again the NUC to the Samsung Smart TV, the audio is off again...
Searching on the Internet I found that the NUC does not send audio output throught HDMI with 1080p resolution... The TV that I used to test has a smaller screen and that why the sound works.
So, is it possible to change the screen resolution in recalbox for emulastation and emulators?
-
i had the same problem, and solve it by going to kodi and get sound, reboot and sound worked on recalbox, hope that works for you.

Wait what ? Where did you see that and for which NUC ?
-
@jl2id although i know sound can be tricky sometimes, it does work on NUC. and at 1080p like @Maldorhan or @abunille can testify
-
@maldorhan Here: https://communities.intel.com/thread/115671
The model is NUC6CAYH
Note 3 : Keep your resolution no higher than 1920x1080 or no sound via HDMI again..
I have tested playing a youtube video in Ubuntu Live USB and the audio start functioning when the resolution is lower than 1080p
:S
-
@jl2id It says "no higher than 1080p", meaning it still works at 1080p, up to 1080p.
Still in your answer you say it only works when you play a video LOWER than 1080p, I'm a bit confused about it?
-
Everything is working... thank you very much guys!
In order to make the NUC6CAYH function correctly you have just to upgrade the BIOS and the Firmware of the NUC link text. You will need a Windows installed in the NUC in order to install the updates.
I guess the same problema happens in NUC7ixBN, cause the firmware upgrade is availiable for both models.
Regards!
