overlays not selectable in retroarch

Hi everyone hopefully someone can tell me whats going on. I had no problems getting overlays to work in retropie but I seem to be having trouble getting them to work in recalbox. I placed them in a folder and they show up in the menu but when I select a cfg file it going back to the overlay menu with nothing in the preset line and no overlay loaded. whats going on?
