Glitches and slow performance with Odroid XU4Q (with video)
-
Hi,
before I comment on my blog about the odroid xu4q and the latest version of recalbox I would like to ask if this a common problem:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHZXbp-vAmo
On Recast I get approx. between 40 and 45 frames per second with Soul Calibur with glitches in the background and missing shadows in SOul Calibur. It seems like the game renders in 1080p and not 640x480 as on the Raspberry Pi 3. Because of the jump in resolution the pi performance similar like the odroid which is very disappointing. I tried batocera and asked there in the forum about the same problem but he tells me that on odroid the resolution cannot be changed.
Sonic Adventure 2 runs not with 60 fps, too. My guess would be 40 to 50 fps.
Mario 64 run with the same high resolution and the same performance like on the pi but with severe graphical glitches. Have a look at the video for details.
Is there a way to fix all that? What about the other odroid owners?

I made a new video and removed the old one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8YNnhggYcQ

@marcdk as I've already explained you in other topics : the dreamcast emulation is something that hardly has any chance to improve on ARM for months if not years. Reicast development has stopped for more than 2 years now, the only challenger still has much to go, and is solely devoted to PC for now anyway.
I think you do not realize that at 1080p, the XU4 is doing already so much better than a pi3 at 640x480. Games like Sonic Adventures 2 run terribly bad on a Pi3, whereas they are rather smooth on XU4.
Regarding N64, the conclusion is the very same ... Even if the video plugins are much more configurable, we'll add some other cores / plugins later which may eventually give better results on XU4, but I can't tell for sure. And still, the pi3 is way behind the XU4 on N64

@substring Yes, I know. Maybe I expected to much of the Odroid or of the emulators in general. Sonic Adventure 2 runs ok but not with 60fps as on real hardware. But the resolution jump is nice but is still far from perfect.
The Odroid is doing much better than the pi but is still not enough to justify the odroid of the pi. at least in my opinion.

Oh my God you are just terribly wrong ... Compare what can be compared. Run DC at 1080p on a pi3 if you want to oppose it to a XU4, so that both boards are compared in the same conditions ... Compare PSP for example, like Kingdom Hearts ...
And remember DC emulation has hardly any chances of being as good as SNES for years, maybe decades ! I'm pretty sure it will in fact never be great and worth. They still can't emulate Windows CE games ...

On Raspberry Pi yes.
On Windows it is pretty good (even if I don't remember the status of Windows CE games) -

I get your point and yes I see the improvement over the raspberry pi 3. But still there is not enough power to run it with 60 fps. Not even in a lower resolution. I tried that. And yes, this is not the "fault" of the odroid.
I understood that this is not going to chance in the near future because of the state of the dreamcast emulators for ARM processors.I may try the x86 emulators. Thanks any way for your time.
