Laptop not loading any ROMS!

Here's what I'm doing:

I've got an old Sony Vaio that was sitting around doing nothing. I thought I'd stick Recalbox on it since I'm trying to turn it into a little arcade machine I guess. I'm running the OS off one USB stick and the ROMS and such from another USB. I've successfully managed to boot the OS and the load screen runs superb at 60fps. Thought I'd download a few ROMS to try out, it's found the ROMS successfully. However, when I run the ROM, it crashes and freezes on the first frame. I cannot go back or anything. This happens with both the demo ROMS and ROMS I've downloaded. I decided to try the USB sticks out of my computer and it all runs perfectly fine, loads them perfectly and runs beautifully. Just not on the laptop... Any advice? Thanks!

@adaptations sounds like a RA bug. Does it happen with N64/DC/PSP ?

I have something similar except I just get a black screen and then it freezes. Can't back out via hotkey or keyboard.

RA means RetroArch I believe... I guess it's time to start verbose logging.
