@skrapps You can, through the Emulationstation menu, set the game ratio, and it is even possible to set this setting per emulator if you want.
Another option is to activate the Perfect Pixel function, which will make the recalbox keep the original aspect ratio of the screen at all times.
Make sure there is no specific zoom option enabled on your TV/Monitor as this could be the problem.
